vibes Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 How telling it is that our so-called "president" wants to help the tsunami victims with 50 million dollars. If memory serves me right, he sent infinitely more money to Florida when hurricanes claimed far fewer victims--but, of course, there were votes to be had (legal or otherwise). Then, too, look at the money he has and continues to throw away in Iraq. If ever there was a group of thugs with warped priorities, it is the one that occupies the seat of power today. The last time I checked, Florida was a part of the USA, and Southeast Asia was not. REALLY telling when the president sends more money to places in America than to foreign countries. Shocking, in fact. Quote
Big Wheel Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 Well, the amount pledged so far is only $15 million I think, not 50 million. When you consider that the cost of the inauguration is going to be $30-40 million--not even counting security costs, I think it's a fair topic for debate. Quote
brownie Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 If Bush is the confirmed Christian reborn he clais to be, he might then have the good idea of forwarding all the money that is being obscenely lavished on His Inauguration to the millions of southeast Asians now in need of all the essentials! Shocking, in fact. Bad vibes, So what? Your bringing that up is truly idiotic. It is still outrageous that this little twerp and his coterie of warmongers can only find $15,000,000 to send these poor people while they dance away many more millions in one night of self-glorification. While they squander billions of dollars and thousands of lives on a totally unjustifiable, unprovoked war. That--and the fact that there are little lemming who go along with it--is what's shocking, not pointing it out. These people are true scum and anyone who supports what they have and are doing needs to take a good look at themselves. Quote

Big Al Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 Interesting site. Seismic Monitor Very interesting indeed, as it appears that seismic shifts/earthquakes are still happening in the area hardest hit. It appears that this whole disaster is far from over. God help those folks. Quote

Son-of-a-Weizen Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 I half expected Chris to find a way to rail on Bush for not ponying up the funds for the expansive deep-water buoy/sensor warning system.....but he's only carping about the money pledged (so far that is....). What a pleasant surprise. Quote
Guy Berger Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 Can we keep the politics out of this discussion, please? It's too bad that people have to turn a human tragedy into a political football match so soon after the fact. Guy Quote

Christiern Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 Sorry, Guy and Big Al, I know it isn't easy to face up to the realities of Bush, but look at what he is doing--or not doing, in this case. Politics very much enters into it when you have our government all but ignoring the plight of so man people while they keep on dancing and basking in what is probably ill-gotten glory. Quote
Christiern Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 Fox is showing a count of 52,000, The Independent 55,000. I'm afraid those figures are way below reality. The BBC reported a much higher one this morning. Quote

Hey, you just violated sheldonm's civil rights by not mentioning him in your list of targets. What is this, Chris? Why are you excluding him? Not anti-semitic enough for ya? Or maybe you know who he voted for; what worries me is how you know who I voted for? Got news for ya, my equitable friend: it weren't Bush!!!! Chew on that for a few minutes, while I promote your latest book "Christiern's Guide to Self-Fulfilling Propheteering." B-) Quote

Johnny E Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 (edited) I'm sorry, but getting aid (and lots of it) to these nations as quickly as possible is very much part of this story. Sometimes there isn't a line between life and politics...they are one in the same. I think we can all agree that $15 million from the worlds one and only super power is simply not enough. We need to lead in this world and these are the type of opportunities that Bush administration should jump on to show the world that we are a benevolent and caring nation. Hopefully Bush will realize this before it's too late (we have a very small window of time with which to work with to avoid a humanitarian disaster). In the mean time, there are private relief agencies that need our support. I encourage all to give generously to these agencies and do all they can within their means. Big Wheel Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 I just went to the movies with a good friend whose birthday is coming up. Instead of gifts this year, he's going to ask everyone to make a donation to one of the relief agencies. Quote
