Ray Charles

Anyone have discographical information about Charles's pre-Atlanatic sides? I've got all 43 of them (I think that's all there were), the first 21 on a Classics cd with pretty good info. (I notice they actually spell Chronological correctly on the Blues series.) But the information I have for the last 22 sides he cut before joining Atlantic is pretty skimpy. I can't even figure out all the titles.

Looks to me like there are more than 43. Perhaps you could list what you've got.

Mike

a sentimental blues

ain't that fine

all to myself

alone in this city

baby let me hold your hand

baby won't you please come home

back home

blues before sunrise

can anyone ask for more

I love you I love you (I will not let you go)

I wonder who's kissing her now

if I give you my love

I'm glad for your sake

I'm wondering and wondering

I've had my fun (goin' down slow)

kissa me baby

let me hear you call my name (st pete florida)

This is the track listing from the Ebony issue, a Fresh Sound sublabel - they were the first to do a definite edition, with an extensive booklet and the story of the many bootlegs and edits. Jordi Pujol's greatest production job, IMO. I bet the edition you ordered, Jim, is copped from the Ebony. Go here and click on "The Birth of a Legend".

Don't know. All I know is they featured it on PLanes Trains And Automobiles, (1987) and I never ever heard the song, being played or being mentioned ever! I mean ever!

The song "The Mess Around" was recorded for Atlantic Records and is available on the three CD complete Atlantic R&B Recordings box set. It can be had for just $15.99 from BMG, when last I checked. Since every recording Charles cut for Atlantic is a classic, this is a must have.
