Dmitry Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Got this terrific 2fer, but the discographical info is a bit scarce. Anybody know what was the recording location? Quote
Dmitry Posted February 14, 2005 Author Report Posted February 14, 2005 Got my answer - Théâtre National Populaire [T.N.P.] in Paris Quote
sidewinder Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 You just beat me to it. Recorded 29th Oct 1969 according to this mighty fine site: Clarke/Boland Discog Quote

Dmitry Posted February 14, 2005 Author Report Posted February 14, 2005 En Concert Avec Europe 1 Disc 2 1.The James' Are Coming (7:17) That should be "The JamFS are Coming", I think. Thanks for the info, sidewinder!!!!! Quote
sidewinder Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 No problem, Dmitry. That site is a treasure-trove of CBBB information. Yes, 'The Jamfs are coming' it is. If my memory is correct, 'Jamf' is a 'term of endearment' used by Johnny Griffin. B-) Quote
brownie Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 From the booklet on the original edition: En Concert Avec Europe 1 Disc 1 1.Pentonville (7:17) (Boland) 2.All Through The Night (4:13) (Porter) 3.Gloria (5:31) (Kaper) 4.Now Hear My Meaning (7:58) (Woode) 5.New Box (7:03) (Boland) 6.You Stepped Out Of A Dream (3:29) (Brown) 7.Volcano (4:28) (Clarke) 8.Box 702 (15:29) (Boland) En Concert Avec Europe 1 Disc 2 1.The James' Are Coming (7:17) (Griffin) 2.I'm Glad There Is You (5:12) (Dorsey) 3.Doing Time (5:47) (Boland) 4.Evanescence (3:52) (Boland) 5.Sonor (3:12) (Clarke) 6.Sax No End (19:17) (Boland) Informatively, the TNP is no longer. It is now the Theatre National de Chaillot inside the Palais de Chaillot which is located opposite the Eiffel Tower on the right bank of the Seine river. The Chaillot Theater housed the Theatre National Populaire from 1951 to 1972. The Palais de Chaillot which also housed the French Cinematheque when it was headed by Henri Langlois was also the home of the United Nations for a while in 1948 before the UN headquarters moved to New York City! Dmitry Posted February 14, 2005 Author Report Posted February 14, 2005 Thanks again, friends!!! Quote
ghost of miles Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 This is indeed a fine CD. I've been listening to it b/c I'm prepping a Clarke-Boland big-band show... will definitely tap this concert for a couple of tracks. Quote
sidewinder Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 Just giving the 'Laserlight' issue of these CDs a spin (I think it cost £4.99 - a bargain !). Will look forward to that programme on the CBBB, Ghost. Quote
mikeweil Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 If my memory is correct, 'Jamf' is a 'term of endearment' used by Johnny Griffin. B-) Indeed: Jive-assed-m.....-f.....! Quote
JSngry Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 In Amurrca, it's "jive-ass", not "jive-assed", and the hyphen is optional, at best. Just so you know. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 He wore some mf pants too on the bus! (Or so Monk tghought!) Quote
jazzbo Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 This really is a great two cd set; I'm going to have to spin my Europe 1 version again soon. There were apparently a few or more broadcasts from this band that should be out there somewhere, though I've never seen or heard one. . . more's the pity. Quote
