Dan Gould Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 I gotta go with the hair bands but I have this strange feeling I'm going to be outvoted. Quote
kenny weir Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 I vote for Hammond organs in jazz! Quote
Dave James Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 Alert the media...I'm with Dan on this one. Hair bands suck. At least with the singer songwriter crew, there were some keepers. I don't think I even own any Gordon Lightfoot, but he did some OK stuff. Up over and out. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 I vote for Hammond organs in jazz! You're banned. Quote

Might as well 'fess up that this poll was inspired by my download of Gordon Lightfoot's "Sundown". Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 What's a hair band? I think that's what you wrap around that bald spot. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 Such a difficult choice. Both do nothing for me. Quote
LAL Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 Listening to some Jon Bovi and Lef Deppard right now. Quote
GregK Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 Hair bands. How awful. I actually work with some guys who love that stuff, go to the reunion concerts, play the CDs at work, debate who the better "guitarist" from these bands was-it's disgusting. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 It was a drag playing music in LA during the 80's and NOT being a hair band. At least integrity pays the bills. Quote
JSngry Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 James Taylor gets the hair bands the nod. The guy quite often did not suck. Quote
JSngry Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 And at least one of Seals & Crofts was in The Champs ("Tequila"). How many hair band songs did Wes Montgomery cover? Quote
chris olivarez Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 The hair bands all looked like "Blade Runner" rejects. Sounded like them too. Quote
RDK Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 By "hair band" do you mean Twisted Sister (as already mentioned) or. say, Flock of Seagulls or Psychedelic Furs? If the latter, then I'll admit to a few "hair bands" that I kinda sorta dig; if the former, then they most definitely they sucked worse. Quote
chris olivarez Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 For me personally it was the former. Quote

I thought the term "hair band" was pretty well known, but here's my definition: Any one of the seemingly hundreds of bands where the band spent more on hair spray and/or makeup than your average Sorority. robviti Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 having survived both trends and enjoyed neither, i want to point out that, for me, the real culprit, the real musical stain placed on humanity during this dark period of civilization was disco. discosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucks discosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucks discosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucks discosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucks discosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucks discosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucksdiscosucks Quote

neveronfriday Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 Call me weird, but I'm a fan of James Taylor. Love most of his stuff ... and have it as well. Cheers! Hair Bands? Hairwise he fits (I think by now he must have blow-dried himself to death) ... Quote

It all falls into the greater category of the "aesthetics of bad taste". If you like disco you also watch the all-time classic, "Plan 9 from Outer Space", again and again and again, and do other silly stuff. You gotta have some fun. Cheers! Quote
DatDere Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 I really dislike late-nineties 'nu-metal' by Limp Bizkit, Korn, Linkin Park and their ilk. That stuff was really popular with people my age a couple of years ago, but I always thought it stunk. Especially Bizkit, with that whining brat Fred Durst. Quote
Jazz Kat Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 N*O*N*E I dont go for the 'lovey dovey' feeling of James Taylor's music, or 80's hair bands, or any 80's pop for that matter. Just jazz for me. Quote
