GregN Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 We are playing Baker's on a Saturday Night!!! Saturday, May 28th!!!! Baker's is the world's oldest jazz club. It is a great sounding room, with an incredible vibe. The staff is friendly, parking is secured, and the service is great. It has been home to many huge names in Jazz, and now has opened it's doors to us. What a great night this should prove to be. If you are in the Detroit area that weekend, pls stop out. Come up and say hi, and if I still got some money, I'll buy ya a drink. Greg Nagy Organissimo Mgt. Baker's Keyboard Lounge Quote
sheldonm Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 I may have to make this trip ! I spent a few days there photographing Baker's 70th Anniversary show a year ago with Donald Bryd, Fuller and McPherson. Cool place to see a show and Jim/Juanita are great owners as well! Lots of history here! Mark Quote
Dan Gould Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Congrats! Sounds like Greg is earning his keep, and the band is profitting! Quote
JSngry Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 WHOA! That's a truly legendary room. Congrats, and kill'em there! Quote
catesta Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 That's a big time show and a half. Congrats, gents! Quote
Dave James Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Isn't Baker's Keyboard Lounge the the same place James Carter recorded a CD that was released about a year ago? Sounds like a top of the line venue. Hope you guys knock some socks off. Up over and out. Quote
bertrand Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Congratulations - legendary place indeed. Is it really older than the Vanguard? Bertrand. Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Baker's - 1934 Vanguard - 1935 but I think the title of "oldest jazz club" is debatable since apparently Baker's did not have entertainment until the late 1930s and the Vanguard's original entertainers were poets and comics. Jim Alfredson Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 I would like to mention that we will have the ever-funky and soulful Mr. Johnny Gist with us at Baker's Keyboard Lounge on May 28th playing tenor saxophone (and maybe some alto, too!) Johnny really adds to the greaze-factor and it's a pleasure to play with him! This is going to be a great time, folks! Quote

Johnny really adds to the greaze-factor and it's a pleasure to play with him! This is going to be a great time, folks! After having been in the room, there is no doubt in my mind that Organissimo is going to knock their socks off. And Johnny Gist...., Oh man, this is not to be missed. Johnny is a wonderful young showman with a greazy/traditional (and yet fresh) sound, to die for!!! His star is also rising!!!! Greg Quote
Jim Dye Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 I wish I could be there! That's going to be such a great gig. A few years after y'all hit the big time, you could do a homecoming gig for all your fans back home in Lansing. Heck, you could even release it as a live CD. Something like this.... Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Ha! I love it! The sad thing is, the old Knapps building is completely empty. It's just a few blocks north of my house. Quote
mwjazzman Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 I'm glad to see the band in this area more often. I have my tickets for tenny st. I might even make the Baker's Keyboard set also. Quote

dave9199 Posted May 26, 2005 Report Posted May 26, 2005 I mentioned this site over at a Guided by Voices site and one of the regulars is a dj and knows about this show. I want to say his name is R. Wilder, but it could just be a board name. He said he was looking forward to it. Quote
dave9199 Posted May 26, 2005 Report Posted May 26, 2005 It is R. Wilder. Here's his post: Organissimo!! These guys are my buds! The drummer, Randy Marsh, is a good friend, great guy and one of the finest jazz drummers in Michigan. That is a great board, too, the best jazz related I've found. Organissimo are doing my station's Jazznight simulcast later in the month. Quote
