ghost of miles Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 There's already a "forthcoming" thread that seems more devoted to imminent sets... thought I'd start this one by posting the e-mail reply I received today: We are still awaiting a reply from Columbia on the Benny Goodman. Just found out that Collectables is about to issue all the Staton Capitols as 2 LPs on 1 CD so that kills that. Pomeroy is still on the list, but nothing definite. Bummer about the Staton... would've much preferred Mosaic's treatment of that. The Pomeroy refers to my previous suggestion that they do a Select of the 1950s EMI-owned material. Anybody heard anything lately about the Boswell Sisters set? Quote
jazzbo Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 MC must be answering emails today; I got a response that he would look in to a set of Gary Burton's RCA lps. . . . Quote
Alfred Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 MC must be answering emails today; I got a response that he would look in to a set of Gary Burton's RCA lps. . . . ← Really?! It would be a hugh set - 7 or 8 CDs at least. Quote
Guy Berger Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 I'd really like to have a complete Charles Lloyd + Chico Hamilton on Columbia select or big box. Guy Quote
jazzbo Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 (edited) He just said he would look in to it. . . it may be for example Quartet lps only, which would be a manageable size, and is great stuff! Or it may never happen. Edited May 31, 2005 by jazzbo Quote
Christiern Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 Damn straight! ← I thought Burton came out! Quote
Brad Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 Not sure Burton would do it for me at least not a whole box set's worth. I'd like to have the early 60s stuff but not the later fusion type material. Chu Berry would be something. Is that on the drawing board or just a wish? Quote
nmorin Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 How about a Mosaic Select of Shorter's Moto Grosso, Odyssey of Iska, and the unreleased session from a couple months later with McCoy Tyner? OK, I'd take a BN connoisseur of this as well. Quote

jazzbo Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 I think it's unlikely we woudl see that unreleased session. I'm pretty sure MC has talked with both McCoy and Wayne about unreleased sessions, agreed to release those they would not mind seeing released, and agredd not to release (maybe even given them the tapes) those they don't want to see released. . . . Quote
bertrand Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 Toss in Super Nova and you have enough material for a select. Otherwise, each CD will only clock in at around 40 minutes (assuming the rejected session is 40 minutes). I think Cuscuna would find that a bit short. Bertrand. Quote
Nate Dorward Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 I'd dropped them a line after Mal Waldron's death suggesting that if they could get the rights to Waldron's 1970s work with Enja that'd make a nice set.... doubt it'll ever happen but you never know. I don't think all of those LPs were ever released on CD, & I suspect Enja has more stuff in the can (the CD reissues sometimes have extra tracks). Quote

I don't think all of those LPs were ever released on CD, & I suspect Enja has more stuff in the can (the CD reissues sometimes have extra tracks). ← Lovely idea. I think 5 or so have made it to CD, and at least 2 have not. But there are also some Waldron dates on a miscellany of Japanese labels that haven't shown up as well, I think. Quote

chris olivarez Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 The Gary Burton RCA's would be a nice set. Quote
chris olivarez Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 I'd really like to have a complete Charles Lloyd + Chico Hamilton on Columbia select or big box. Guy ← Is Gabor Szabo on these albums? Quote
DrJ Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 Hey cool Lon - great news about the Burton RCA set being in the running! I posted this thread a while back suggesting that very set and there was a nice discussion that ensued: Burton RCA Mosaic Idea I guess enough little birds from this board (and probably elsewhere!) must have also planted the idea in MC's ear! Quote
jazzbo Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 Well, let me reiterate: all MC said was that he would look into it. Could be ten years from now before he finally says. . . no. (Here's hoping otherewise). Missed that earlier thread entirely somehow! Quote
DrJ Posted June 3, 2005 Report Posted June 3, 2005 Yeah, I won't be holding my breath until the Burton set does/doesn't happen, but it's nice to know there's hope! Quote

Guy Berger Posted June 3, 2005 Report Posted June 3, 2005 I'd really like to have a complete Charles Lloyd + Chico Hamilton on Columbia select or big box. Guy ← Is Gabor Szabo on these albums? ← Szabo should be on most of the Chico albums and on Lloyd's first album. Lloyd's second album for Columbia was with Herbie, Ron and Tony IIRC. Guy Quote
Sundog Posted June 3, 2005 Report Posted June 3, 2005 Wouldn't mind seeing a "Mosaic Select" treatment of those Milt Jackson Quartet albums from the early 80's documenting their appearance at Ronnie Scott's. Probably not very likely for many reasons but the music is certainly worthy of more attention. Quote
