Time to replace my vinyl copy of Turning Point!  Word!

Yes!!! And who'd of thunk it? Turning Point...not high on the list of BN probabilities in my mind. But GLAD it's come up. Simply one of Lonnie's greatest and with Lee Morgan and Bennie Maupin on board, there's just some BEAUTIFUL sounds on there. I love organ with a full horn front line, and it's just not represented that much.

turning point isn't as deep as you might think with maupin and priester aboard. its alright.

the version of elanor rigby is better than expected and has a dark little section.

imo

hank's reach out session is one of his weaker cds

I think most would say the same thing given the backdrop of the complete Hank BN discography. That said, it's still a personal fave because I dig that era of BN and it's interesting to hear Hank in this environment. He never fails to bring his full self to the table.

I really like Leo Parker, and his Blue Notes sort of seem a bridge to the earlier Blue Note years and the modern Blue Note years; lover as I am of the early years, I really like these two lps/cds.

I've had this as a domestic cd, and as a Time Life (Spanish) "blued over" cd (which sports TOCJ 16 bit mastering). I'll buy the RVG because I bet it will sound best of them all (subjective opinion only!) and because I want them to reissue the OTHER in the RVG series. . . . I may buy copies for my brother and a few friends for Xmas too.

Here's an earlier Leo Parker thread (just over a year old)
