Didn't see anyone mention this yet this month...

I'm flipping through Spirit, SW's inflight magazine, on my flight to Phoenix today and lo and behold the band is mentioned in one of the features. Here's the excerpt. Jim, let me know if you or the other guys want a copy and I'll snag one on the flight home.

Excerpted from "Motown's Sound" by Elvis Mitchell, Flight magazine, February 2006 issue.

Mitchell writes about going to Baker's Keyboard Lounge with a friend...

With its low ceiling and mostly unobstructed sight lines, Baker's is like a fossilized lounge, destined to combat the boredom of the present with weapons from the past: sweet unadulterated jazz. That night its performed by a Lansing-based trio called organissimo, which swings through its jammed sets with its keyboardist blasting through a meticulously chosen set of originals and new songs. The group's toned, muscular playing keeps the crowd rapt, a condition noticeable by the fact that almost no one is talking. This is the biggest test at Baker's. Because if the act playing isn't hush-worthy, Baker's brick-house acoustic will ensure a crushing din of food and drink orders - or, just as often, loud complaints about the Tigers' or Lions' pitiable season.

Congrats! Makes me, in some very small way, almost slightly regret swearing off (and at) Southwest. They do have a good in-flight mag. They had a feature not long ago on jazz clubs around the country. And a feature on LPs.

Only "inside" to the 250 million americans who got to hear that tagline on the SW tv commercials for a couple years....

Sorry, didn't realize that this was part of a TV ad. I haven't watched any TV since the 70s. I figured it was just one of those things they (oh so cleverly ) say on the plane.

Sorry. I didn't take that into account. My bad. I appreciate the comment anyway.

Congratulations!

Obviously, Mitchell's good taste extends beyond just movies.

Wow! What a nice piece. :tup

Elvis Mitchell writes about movies for the New York Times.

I'd imagine he's one of the only black guys ever to be named "Elvis."

I always wondered if his mama gave him that name or if he assumed it himself as a kind of ironic thing.

Wasn't a former NY Giant db named Elvis?
