The Chaloff is one I have been waiting for - I will definitely get this and the Crusaders disc.

Shit, the Chaloff. Just like always: months after getting the Toshiba SBJC it gets reissued here. And nowadays Pacific Jazz reissues are so scarce... It should have been the elusive Fables of Mabel. Oh, well...

Just go an grab this one on 1201 Music ??

I had the mini lps and luckily offed them on eBay for many pennies because this cheaper version sounded better to me.

Anybody know what year the Kenton was issued? I prefer his 50s work.

From the BN new release page:

In 1961, Stan Kenton hired his former alto saxophonist-arranger Lennie Niehaus to prepare a book of standard ballads for his newly expanded Mellophonium orchestra which featured such excellent soloists as trumpeter Marvin Stamm, alto saxophonist Gabe Baltazar, and tenor saxophonist Sam Donohue. Kenton was so impressed with the results that he recorded 12 of Niehaus’s beautiful sonic tapestries in July for this album. He recorded six more in December and only later issued on various Creative World LPs. They are included here as bonus tracks.
