bertrand Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 (edited) I'm thinking of getting this with the 30% Borders' Coupon. I know they unearthed tracks that were not on the Riverside Box (plus they included 'Monk's Mood'). Are there any tracks they missed? I know that more may surface in the future, I just want to make sure that everything known as to this day is included. How's the sound? Is the booklet worthwhile? Thanks, Bertrand. GA Russell Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 Where have you been, Bertrand? LOL! Here's a lengthy discussion of the sound: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=27290 Quote
mjzee Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 This has to be the most absurd price I've ever seen: $1.37, plus $2.98 shipping, for a new copy: Monk/Coltrane Riverside Quote
Norm Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 This has to be the most absurd price I've ever seen: $1.37, plus $2.98 shipping, for a new copy: Monk/Coltrane Riverside Thanks for bringing this to our attention (at least those of us who don't have it). I read through the entire related thread and while I trust Chuck that the K2 monos sound better, it seems both are now out of print so for $4.30 this seems like a no-brainer (for someone who doesn't have any previous versions). I wasn't planning on getting this at all, since I have the Riverside box, but at this price it is worth it for the two extra tracks (also curious about the Monk-less jam). Of course, while I was at it I got one of Newbury's Art Pepper Hollywood boxes. I gotta stop coming around here. Quote
spinlps Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 I gotta stop coming around here. Ya know... I had my music spending under control until I came back last month. I bet I've spent more on music in the last month or so than in the previous 7 - 8 months combined... On the plus side, I have co-workers randomly stopping by my office just to chat and see what's playing. Quote

On the flip side, when I feel the need to part with some CDs (and I am very close to that now), this is a good place to offer them before practically giving them away at Reckless (or Dusty Groove). Totally unrelated, but Vijay Iyer is going to be doing a week-long stand in St. Louis in January. If you haven't heard him live, you should check him out. I'm trying to come up with a plausible reason to make the trip down... Edited October 17, 2009 by ejp626 Quote
JSngry Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 Call me crazy, but to catch a Vijay Iyler gig sounds like plausible enough reason to me. Seriously, a week long gig? Is this a club (nah, couldn't be...) or a university residence, or a New Music Circle production, or just what? Quote

I am partly waiting to see if he manages to get Chicago date around then. Anyway, I'll post in the appropriate thread closer to the time. Quote
JSngry Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 A four day club booking? Impressive! Quote

mikeweil Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 This set was offered at similar giveaway prices in Germany - I got me one although I have the big Riverside box, and find the sound to be very good, with a very natural soundstage. Quote
