JSngry Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 spec. cant buy me love- is it booagloo style, etc Nope. It's a shuffle. The album's pretty good. That poster was included with the first wave of 1980s BN reissues, when they relaunched the label. I put one up in my son's room when he was like 2 or 3, and he kept it up until he was 15 or so. Then he got into his own music. But he still knows good BN jazz when he hears it. That's all I wanted. Someday you can do the same for your own little chewy. Just don't rip the beating heart of of any middle aged bearded jazz idiots. Hard to make babies in prison, doncha know... Now, the Grant thing was part of a short-lived Liberty move to repackage some of the older BNs. Believe it or not, Soul Station was one of the ones that got a new cover. Quote
sidewinder Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Soul Station was one of the ones that got a new cover. Wasn't that the one that got the Parisian scene, sort of 'a la Reach Out' ? I've also seen at least one Bennie Green with the different Liberty cover. Quote

A man who has no idea the extent of or lack of your music knowledge offers some useful advice and your reaction is to mock his looks, feel murder in your heart and the urge to commit violence? Then another poster here rewards this man for offering some helpful advice by calling him an idiot? What is going on in your lives to feel so much hatred and anger with no provocation? Am I missing something? Quote
JSngry Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Am I missing something? Quite a bit actually. But it's cool so long as you're not a middle aged bearded jazz fan. Quote
Free For All Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Then another poster here rewards this man for offering some helpful advice by calling him an idiot? I think Sangrey's comment was of a self-effacing nature, not directed at anyone else. As far as chewy's behavior, well, that's just chewy. He sometimes goes "postal". Quote
JSngry Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 True on all counts. Although... I shaved my beard off last month and am giving less and less of a rat's ass about listening to & playing the same shit for the rest of my life that I have for most of the first part of it, so who knows? Quote
JSngry Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Seriously though, I figure that a lot of us here are between 35-55. I myself came of age in the 60s & 70s, so I understand the revulsion aimed at middle-aged hipsters. It's actually healthy, and it will pass soon enough, like when those middle-aged people you hate are the ones signing your checks. Well, actually, that'll probably make it worse... Anyway, history's repeating itself, as is its wont. Only we're on the other side now. Fancy that. Quote

HolyStitt Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Am I the only one that wondered if this thread was for a Stan Lee jazz LP? Quote
HolyStitt Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 You mean this one? No, the one where Stan Lee plays flute. Quote
JSngry Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Hmmm, no mention of that one here Quote
HolyStitt Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Hmmm, no mention of that one here Of course not, it is only available on the site. It features Stan Lee on flute, Elvis doing free jazz yodeling, Jack Kirby on kazoo, and all are supported by the Oscar Peterson trio. Deep, deep underground tracks. Quote
bertrand Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Holy crap - that picture of Dan Morgenstern with a beard is hilarious! Bertrand. Quote
JSngry Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Oscar Peterson completist that I am, I'm excited to the point of fitzwilliness to hear about this! Quote
