jazzbo Posted June 2, 2021 Report Posted June 2, 2021 I have this material I believe on a cassette release. I find the material fascinating, but it's definitely not for everyone. I'll order this cd next time I make a big order from cdjapan (I can't add it to the order I have in place as I used a coupon for that order and you can't change an order you've used a coupon on). It seems to me the kind of stuff you'd be able to buy at a meditation centre. Not suitable for general release. Can you remember where you bought the cassette, Lon? Quote
jazzbo Posted June 2, 2021 Report Posted June 2, 2021 I didn't buy it, I traded for it with another Coltrane nut. Quote

JSngry Posted June 2, 2021 Report Posted June 2, 2021 I'm thinking there were three ashram cassettes? If so, they were all blogged back in the day, and portions were included in the official compilation for a a few years ago. I like this stuff quite a bit, actually, and would recommend it to all but the most hesitant. Quote

Haven't pulled it out in a while and went to look at it and it isn't where I thought it was . . . story of my life! It's good, some of it really fierce, but I like her orchestral and her more overtly spiritual work for Warners a tad more. Transfiguration! Quote
Rabshakeh Posted June 3, 2021 Report Posted June 3, 2021 Is it standard ashram music? Or is there a specific Alice Coltrane slant? Quote

Rabshakeh Posted June 3, 2021 Report Posted June 3, 2021 Thanks. Seems like an odd choice of a reissue, but I suppose Alive Coltrane is valuable property these days. Quote

JSngry Posted June 3, 2021 Report Posted June 3, 2021 But you can still get a hot dog on the way out. Quote

JSngry Posted June 3, 2021 Report Posted June 3, 2021 Vegan hot dogs are the ultimate disincentive to use the Costlane. Quote
Rabshakeh Posted June 3, 2021 Report Posted June 3, 2021 Ha! Only just seen this. Spell check's still busy, protecting us whilst we sleep. Quote

Late Posted June 13, 2021 Report Posted June 13, 2021 You have to wonder — what was the imperative for making new cover art? Quote
Harbour Posted June 23, 2021 Report Posted June 23, 2021 There’s an interesting interview with Ravi Coltrane in the new Mojo where he talks about this release and also that there are tons more recordings still in the archive and the next thing to come out this autumn is another John Coltrane Quartet live album recorded in 1965 the same week as Live in Seattle!
