Adam Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 I liked this: Top Ten Overlooked Bob Dylan Songs I'd add Every Grain Of Sand & Shooting Star. I'd add Blind Willie McTell. Still only on Bootleg 1-3. Fair to call it overlooked? Quote
Neal Pomea Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 I never saw that photo before, either: from the Blonde on Blonde photo shoot. Scary picture. He didn't look well in that photoshoot. Where was he? Behind the walls of Redwing? Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 For me it's Tangled Up In Blue, the version on Bootleg Series 1-3. I think it is far superior to what's on BOTT and captures the mood associated with the tale he tells. I always reach for the demo BOTT, but taken together, the two versions of that LP are a cannonball for me. A fine piece long ago in MOJO had the (I think) whole story of the two records, two bands. papsrus Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 Dylan talks about habit, death in '60s interview. His thoughts about pondering taking his own life seem almost as if he wasn't alarmed about them at all, as if part of a daily list of things to do: Get groceries, write lyric, jump out window. Quote

I don't know, man--it's Bob. Not much in his career he hasn't done just for the reaction (I'm a super-fan, and that's still my opinion). Quote
B. Goren. Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 Today, May 24, is Bob Dylan's 70th Birthday. Happy Birthday Mr. Dylan and thanks for the music! Quote
Matthew Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 So I'm watching a Hollywood A Go Go show from 1966, and the host, Sam Riddle is interviewing Cher (I never realized how pervy Sonny Bono looked next to her until this show), and Riddle casually mentions that Dylan has a tv show in England. Really? I checked Dylan's IMBd entry, and nothing is listed for England 1966. Anyone know anything about this supposed English tv show in 1966? I've never heard of it -- which, granted, doesn't mean a whole lot. Quote
mjzee Posted June 17, 2011 Author Report Posted June 17, 2011 Maybe he's referring to Eat The Document, which did get one airing on NBC in the States. It was filmed on Dylan's 1966 British tour. Quote

medjuck Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 I wonder if that radio show is available anywhere in the US. Quote
patricia Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 Those of you who haven't noticed the little gem of a music video included as an extra feature with the DVD of "The Wonder Boys" might want to pick it up just to see Dylan singing "Times Have Changed." There he is. Warts and all. Quote
ghost of miles Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 Bruce Springsteen talking about "Like a Rolling Stone" at Dylan's Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony: I was in the car with my mother listening to WMCA, and on came that snare shot that sounded like somebody'd kicked open the door to your mind . DobermanBoston Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 Big fan; one of the first artists I started listening to post-children's music. My favorite unsung/underrated/"dark horse" Dylan album is 1978's Street Legal. Quote
mjzee Posted November 12, 2011 Author Report Posted November 12, 2011 Has anyone heard this album? Bob's on it, so I'm curious, but the reviews on Amazon are also intriguing: Sly & Robbie - Language Barrier Quote
mjzee Posted March 7, 2012 Author Report Posted March 7, 2012 The word is Columbia Records is preparing the ultimate Bob Dylan box set– a collection of all his albums including his bootleg series. The massive box will be a Dylanographer’s delight, collecting every single track including single tracks like “George Jackson” that never made into onto an album. There will also be a couple of CDs with miscellaneous tracks, so that just about everything you ever heard, had, lost, or wanted is all in one place. The price for this super collection is said to be $300–but there’s an upside. I am told that there will be a code so buyers can download the whole thing for free as well. Taken from: Forbes Quote
crisp Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 That's actually not a bad price for that much music. I don't own any Dylan, though, and I'm not sure if I'd take the plunge in that way. I've been monitoring prices on the mono box, however. Quote
jazzbo Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 They've really edited out a lot of the info in that article. I think that this set may not happen. Quote
mjzee Posted April 12, 2012 Author Report Posted April 12, 2012 Dylan and The Band at the Isle of Wight 1969. Looks like it was captured on a video recorder. Interesting to see Dylan's stage mannerisms haven't changed much since then. YouTube Quote

Pete C Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 (edited) For folks with Spotify, here's a playlist I put together of Dylan covers. Among my favorites are Ann Peebles doing "Tonight I'll be Staying Here with You," Marlene Dietrich's "Blowin' in the Wind," Flatt & Scruggs' "Down in the Flood," The Ramones' "My Back Pages," Isaac Hayes' "Lay Lady Lay," Anthony & the Johnsons' "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" and Nina Simone's "Ballad of Hollis Brown." slide_advantage_redoux Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 (edited) DId anyone see the cable show "Accidental Fortune" last night? I don't recall the station that carries that series. Good stuff. Anyway, this episode had a lady on whose father used to be the pilot for Dylan, Peter Paul and Mary, et al. For over 40 years she has had in her possession an old (mint) sunburst Fender Strat. Her father said it was left on the plane after he flew back from the Newport Folk Festival in '65....the year that Dylan went electric and freaked everyone out, esp. Pete Seeger. lol At any rate, inside the case there were also some lyric worksheets, etc. She contacted the producers of the series and they took up the challenge to see if they could prove if that guitar was THE guitar that Dylan played that night. Long story short they did prove that it was the guitar! Amazing. The women had contacted Dylan's lawyers after so many years had past. Her dad had also tried to rach Dylan to no avail. Apparently he didn't care to retrieve the Strat. Maybe the experienc eof being booed so heartily affected him who knows. The appraisers said that the guitar alone would most likely bring close to $500K at auction. And the lyric work sheets (in his handwriting and his typed words too) would fetch around $20-30K. Amazing. By the way, the guitar was spotless. Mint as could be. Made in 1964. Correction: the program was "History Detectives" PBS. http://www.firstcoastnews.com/life/entertainment/article/264845/19/Has-Bob-Dylans-guitar-been-found And Dylan's camp claims he has the guitar. Who knows. Interesting story. Edited July 19, 2012 by slide_advantage_redoux Quote
