Dmitry Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 Turns out my friend Avril's father recorded Miles in Boston some time in 1961 IN PERFECT STEREO! He was screwing around with some Telefunken microphones in college and somehow recorded a whole 2-hour long session. Hank is on fire here. Amazing stuff and it sounds just gorgeous! I'm listening to the original Ampex reel-o-reel right this very moment! Holy crap!!!! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 (edited) What label (or labels) would have some/any claim to this - in terms of the legit release of this material today? (In terms of contracts at the time, and such.) I have to claim complete ignorance of the details of how these things work. Could any label legitimately release this now (assuming all the legal hoops are jumped through correctly), regardless of the "controlling authority" at the time?? Or would Columbia (presumably) have rights to this today?? Edited April 2, 2007 by Rooster_Ties Quote
jazzbo Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 It's just plain cruel to mention this. A pox on ya! Quote

clifford_thornton Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 I would doubt the tape, whether polyester or acetate, would have held up well enough in less-than-archival conditions to sound even halfway decent at this point. Quote
Aggie87 Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 (edited) Dmitry - PM received, my blank CDR's are on their way! Thanks!! Edited April 2, 2007 by Aggie87 Quote
Soul Stream Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 The Miles group with Hank is my favorite lineup next to the Coltrane period. I never thought the Blackhawk or Someday My Prince Will Come recordings ever really captured what Hank was truely capable of on a GREAT night. NOW WE'LL KNOW FOR SURE!!!!!! THIS IS MINDBLOWING!!!!!! I can't imagine Columbia not wanting to release these tapes if they're in as good of shape as you've suggested. Amazing. Quote
Dmitry Posted April 2, 2007 Author Report Posted April 2, 2007 Gentlemen, I wish this were true, but it was an April Fools gag. As it stands - GOTCHA! Quote

I thought you were the one behind the "play along, let's fool Aric" thing. Did you notice all the edited posts? Anyway, I think a few were fooled. Not me. Quote
