MoGrubb Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Paris Hilton won't appeal the 45-day jail term she was sentenced to earlier this month for violating probation, according to court documents filed Thursday. A lawyer for the 26-year-old socialite notified Los Angeles Count Superior Court that she is abandoning her appeal, said court spokeswoman Katherine Roberts. I think that's commendable. Maybe she's owning up to responsibility. Quote

Not because she'll get off easy because she's "famous," but because the jails have been so overcrowded that in most offenses like these (less than 60 or 90 day sentences I believe) the perp only serves a day or two - or is even just "processed through" without staying. But if that happened to Paris - if she really got treated like the average Joe - there'd be folks rioting in the streets that she got off because of her celebrity. Quote

I suspect this is why her attorney is not filing an appeal. They are reporting she will probably serve 20 days maximum and is going to be in a "special needs housing unit" which is where they send public officials and jailed cops. So, it will be 20 very easy days all things considered. She should be well rested and ready to partay when released. Edited May 18, 2007 by catesta Quote

Bright Moments Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 from some rag: Hilton must begin her prison sentence by June 5. Frank Griffin, a co-owner of the Bauer-Griffin photo agency, told the Los Angeles Times that photos of Hilton could be worth up to 500,000 dollars. "People will try to get the photo any way they can. Wardens, guards, anyone working inside will most probably get the photo," Griffin told the paper. "Paris finding Jesus in a foetal position with a half-eaten bologna sandwich would probably get 200,000 dollars." The same photo might fetch 500,000 dollars "if you could see the tears," Griffin added. However the real cash bonanza could fall into the lap of Hilton's cellmate, if she has one. "The big money is in being her roommate," Griffin said. The famously ubiquitous Hilton has kept a low profile since her jail sentence was handed down. Hilton's psychiatrist said in court documents filed this week she is "emotionally distraught and traumatized" by the May 4 hearing and is not fit to take part in a civil trial brought against her by diamond heiress Zeta Graff. catesta Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 She cried her way out and is now going to serve the next 40 days in the comfort of her home. They should have just given her house arrest to begin with rather than let her off now that she cried a little because she was in a cell by herself away from the general population. Lawyers should advise their clients to start crying to see if their sentence is changed...., Oh wait a minute, you have to be a Paris Hilton in order for that to work. L.A. is a joke. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Advanced AP Paris Hilton released from LA jail By ROBERT JABLON, Associated Press Writer 16 minutes ago LOS ANGELES - Paris Hilton was released from a Los Angeles County jail early Thursday because of an unspecified medical problem and will fulfill the reminder of her sentence in home confinement, a sheriff's spokesman said. ADVERTISEMENT The 26-year-old hotel heiress was sent home shortly after 2 a.m. fitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet. She had spent five days at the Century Regional Detention Facility in suburban Los Angeles for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. "I can't specifically talk about the medical situation other than to say that, yes, it played a part in this," said sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore. Hilton had been sentenced to 45 days behind bars, but had been expected to serve 23 days because of state rules allowing shorter sentences for good behavior. Whitmore said that under the new agreement, Hilton would be confined to her home for 40 days. "Because she has agreed to this through her attorney, her sentence is now back up to the 45 days. She has served already five days so that's 40 days," he explained. Hilton checked into the Century Regional Detention Facility just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday. She had surrendered to authorities with little fanfare after a surprise appearance at the MTV Movie Awards, where she worked the red carpet in a strapless designer gown. "I am trying to be strong right now," she told reporters at the time. "I'm ready to face my sentence. Even though this is a really hard time, I have my family, my friends and my fans to support me, and that's really helpful." Hilton was housed in the "special needs" unit of the 13-year-old jail, separate from most of its 2,200 inmates. The unit contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates. She didn't have a cellmate. After she checked in Sunday, Whitmore said Hilton's demeanor was helpful. "She was focused; she was cooperative," he said. Hilton's lawyer, Richard A. Hutton, said Monday after his client's first night in jail that she was doing well under the circumstances. "She's using this time to reflect on her life, to see what she can do to make the world better and hopefully, in my opinion, to change the attitudes that exist about her among many people," Hutton said after visiting Hilton. The 13-year-old jail, a two-story concrete building next to train tracks and beneath a bustling freeway, has been an all-female facility since March 2006. It's located in an industrial area about 12 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. When she was sentenced May 4, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ruled that she would not be allowed any work release, furloughs or use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of jail. Officers arrested Hilton in Hollywood on Sept. 7. In January, she pleaded no contest to the reckless-driving charge and was sentenced to 36 months' probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines. She was pulled over by California Highway Patrol on Jan. 15. Officers informed Hilton she was driving on a suspended license and she signed a document acknowledging she was not to drive. She then was pulled over by sheriff's deputies on Feb. 27, at which time she was charged with violating probation. from yahoo news Quote

ghost of miles Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Did she hunger-strike her way out? LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Paris Hilton was let out of jail Thursday morning, days after she began serving what was to have been a 45-day sentence for violating probation, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. Hilton must wear a monitoring bracelet and remain at her home for another 40 days, said sheriff's department spokesman Steve Whitmore. Medical considerations "played a part" in the decision to offer Hilton home confinement for the remainder of her sentence, Whitmore said. (Watch Whitmore detail Hilton's deal ) He said privacy rules prohibited him from giving details about the medical issues, but celebrity Web site TMZ.com earlier quoted sources saying Hilton was refusing to eat much of the jail food served her.
