Quincy Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 Given all the bumps & bruises, never mind the shorter livespan an NFL player has, it really is damn stupid they test for pot. Let him be. Quote
T.D. Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 Given all the bumps & bruises, never mind the shorter livespan an NFL player has, it really is damn stupid they test for pot. Let him be. Agreed. Testing regime seems kinda strange: players' union won't accept blood tests for HGH (wink, wink), and the steroid testing has holes you could drive a truck through. But they come down hard on weed, which doesn't seem like a performance-enhancing substance ... Like he said, let Ricky be. If I was a ballplayer, I'd want my opponents to be whacked out on performance-non-enhancing drugs! Quote
Chalupa Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 (edited) IIRC, the NBA does not test for weed. EDIT: well apparently they started testing in 2000. Still the penalty is pretty soft compared to the NFL.... If a player tests positive for marijuana for the first time during Reasonable Cause Testing, First-Year Testing, or Veteran Testing, or he is convicted of, or pleads guilty, nolo contendre or no contest to, the use or possession of marijuana in violation of the law, he will be required to enter the program. A second such violation will result in a $15,000 fine and the player's re-entry into the program. A third (or any subsequent) such violation will result in a five-game suspension and the player's re-entry into the program. http://news.findlaw.com/legalnews/sports/d.../index.html#NBA Edited May 11, 2007 by J.H. GA Russell Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 Toronto Argonauts, here we come! It says here that over the winter the CFL Board of Governors passed a rule prohibiting a team from signing a player under suspension in another league. So this year the CFL won't be an option. http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/R...tsFootball/home Quote
Brad Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 Why shouldn't they test for weed? Players should be careful. It's not like this is an isolated occurrence but just another link in the chain of his drug abuse. Quote
MoGrubb Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 The team probably would look the other way if they thought the devil weed enhanced his performance on the field. Quote
Shawn Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 I think the league has already given him plenty of opportunities to clean up his act, after all, this is his 5th(!) failed test. In an interview with Terrell Davis a month ago he stated plainly that he "No longer needed to smoke". Guess something came up... Anyway, with all the tougher rules around player conduct I don't believe Ricky will play in the NFL again. Quote
Eric Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 Anyway, with all the tougher rules around player conduct I don't believe Ricky will play in the NFL again. I think that is correct. I am sure the NFL would rather his "slot" go to some rising star versus a confused pothead. Quote
