AllenLowe Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 well, a few years ago I was discussing the bebop era with someone - and we figured out that virtually every great musician of that era was a junkie of some kind - so there may be something to that - Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 i also don't care. i am entitled to my opinion. which is that they are a load of dumpage. i need them telling me what i should be listening to as much as i needed thurston moore telling me years ago. Thurston at least had more sense of humor about it... Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 but do i need moore telling me that marzette watts was a "soulful black cat?" Why take everything personally? Quote
ghost of miles Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 Whatever happened to spinslps? Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 (edited) (& again, if iverson covered harmonia, kluster, parson sound, even early caravan-- anything an american would find even a little esoteric... it might still suck but at least you'd KNOW it wasn't for shock/kitsch value, despite his weak-ass protestations.) I'd shit if anyone covered "Sov Gott Rose-Marie"... Thurston's a goofball, enthused and sometimes over-enthused, but he's probably done more good than harm in the long run. I mean, he wasn't just mindlessly touting the Alabama Feeling LP, but reissued it on CD a few years after that Grand Royal article and put out/bankrolled some of Doyle's other recordings on Ecstatic Peace and other labels. I mean, not that Doyle's the greatest player on earth but you gotta respect Moore's helpful enthusiasm. He did a lot of cool shit with that DGC A&R bonus, I'll tell you that much... Hoppy T. Frog Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 DGC...very underrated record label sort of! I see a truckload of "Beavis and Butthead Experience" cut-outs that say otherwise. Quote
