sidewinder Posted October 10, 2007 Author Report Posted October 10, 2007 ....and I couldn't even take advantage ! (sniff...) Quote
deadcoldfish Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 got email from the Bastards that this is back in stock, though I ordered one from Amazon Marketplace. Also I had bid on one on ebay, but didn't win, and then got a second chance email to buy it for $19.99, so it appears that Concord Records flooded the marketplace with these cutouts. Quote
Ron S Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 (edited) Just received my set from village_music_world on Amazon Marketplace. It's brand new and factory sealed, but with a remainder mark through the bar code just like the sets being sold by Dusty Groove. Last time I checked, village_music_world had about 45 of these listed for sale, so they must be coming from Concord or some major distributor. Incidentally, village_music_world did a nice job (packed well, shipped on time, and provided real-time on-line tracking of shipment progress via the postal service, which is unusual for an Amazon Marketplace merchant), and has now lowered its price to about $31. With shipping, it works out to be about the same price as Dusty Groove shipped. EDIT: Here's a link for the village_music_world listing. Edited October 17, 2007 by Ron S Quote
king ubu Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 I got my set yesterday, looks like another beautiful box! Most of the music will be new to me, too. I've heard some of it once, years ago, on some borrowed LPs, and had the Lighthouse CD, but haven't even played it all through so far - looking forward to exploring this box! Quote
Soulstation1 Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 what does dusty charge for shipping this set? Quote
Aggie87 Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 what does dusty charge for shipping this set? If you go with media mail, I believe it's $4.99. Other options from Dusty Groove depend on your zip code. Quote
jlhoots Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Dusty Groove shipped mine today. Quote
Matthew Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Received mine yesterday, in beautiful shape because of great packaging by DG. What a wonderful buy. Now I just need to find time to listen to all the new music I have. Quote
Noj Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 I just ordered the last one they had in stock. What a deal! Goodbye emusic cdrs. Quote
Ron S Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 It's still available through Amazon Marketplace--and just as cheap (including shipping) as Dusty Groove! Quote
Soulstation1 Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 dusty still has them in stock.... i'm gonna see if they hold one until next monday(payday) for me Quote
trane_fanatic Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Looking at eBay, the Henderson set has amazingly sold for much less than DG in the last few weeks. Got mine from Dusty though and am trying to unload the single CDs of material from this box I bought from Conn a while back. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 I just ordered the last one they had in stock. What a deal! Goodbye emusic cdrs.Good move Noj! Quote

Big Wheel Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 +++ Cut-Out of the Year? October 19th, 2007 | 5:31 pm est | Thom Jurek The coolest and best-priced cutout of 2007 has to be Joe Henderson’s The Milestone Years, an eight-CD box that contains representative tracks from all of the albums the late great saxophonist cut for the imprint from 1967 to 1976, as well as several guest appearances he made on the recordings of others. Gawd, Jurek's abuse of the language drives me up the wall sometimes. The box is a complete set of Henderson's Milestone albums, so calling them "representative tracks" is just wrong. It suggests to me that Jurek either can't speak English or is too lazy to read the liners or any number of online reviews of what he is describing. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Even though cash is pretty tight, I feel I can't pass up on this offer. I'll know I'll be kicking myself in the rear months from now if I let this slide. Quote
Head Man Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 (edited) Put my order in today with Amazon.com. $36 delivered to the UK must be bargain of the year! Now, what to do with the six individual CDs I have from this set? Any offers? Edited October 21, 2007 by Head Man Quote

I'll know I'll be kicking myself in the rear months from now if I let this slide. I know; me too. Even though Henderson's not one of my favorites, I figured this is a good way to expose myself to his oeuvre. I ordered this on Amazon from Village Music World. Quote
Ron S Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 (edited) I ordered this on Amazon from Village Music World. The Village Music World listing on Amazon now says that there are 24 in stock, down from 45 a few days ago. I'm sure that the Jurek item is getting more people to buy this--at least one reader comment posted below Jurek's article says that the reader bought it on Amazon Marketplace. These may dry up fairly quickly now. Edited October 21, 2007 by Ron S Quote

I bought this with Christmas money several years back and have NEVER regretted it. Be glad that you can get it! Many hours of listening pleasure to be had with this set... Quote
GA Russell Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 The box is a complete set of Henderson's Milestone albums, so calling them "representative tracks" is just wrong. Big Wheel, are you sure you are correct? It was my understanding that only a couple of albums are included in their entirety, Power to the People being one of them. I don't have it, so I may be wrong. Quote

From Scott Yanow's review on the very same AMG site: "This massive eight-CD set contains all of the music from Henderson's dozen Milestone LPs" From the 2004 Fantasy catalog: "His 12 albums during that period . . . have been compiled into this eight-CD, 82-selection box."
