I mean, aside from some of my posts. ;)

From a SI interview of Tony Gwynn:

SI: So what advice do you give your daughter, recording artist Anisha Nicole, about hip-hop or R&B?

Gywnn: Listen to jazz (laughs). I tell my daughter all the time: You're a good singer. You should sing jazz. The kids on my San Diego State team come up to the plate with these songs and I can't understand what they are saying. It just makes me realize that I'm older and not hip anymore. So I'll continue to listen to jazz guys like Kirk Whalum and Boney James.

Everything sounded so right, I'm starting to think Gwynn knows where its at ... and then I read those last five words. :bad: :bad: :bad: :bad:

You nailed it. When I started reading the quote I was riding a swelling wave of buttermilk goodness and then SPLAT! Biscuit hits the floor butter-side down. Now I'm disappointed. And hungry.

Never heard of 'em before.

I'm ok w/Kirk Whalum. Really. The cat can play. Not crazy about all/most of his recordings, but he's not at all a bad listen in that genre.

Boney James? Hmmm.... "not offensive" is the very best I can come up with, and that's pushing the niceometer up to 11.

I was mildly surprised to find this clip:

YEAH!

I haven't heard much Weather Report, but I was pretty pelased that Whalum (who, by the way, is pretty good on Gerald Allbright's "Live at Birdland West") wasn't trying to take Wayne Shorter's place in the band - more like Illinois Jacquet's :)

Oh, and I loved his Jacquet and cap!

I only wish these guys would do more stuff like that.
