brownie Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 A friend of mine had one and had some fun with it on the streets of Paris! I even rode in it This friend drove it on the road once. The car did not make it through a curve and ended its journey in a ditch! That was the end of the Isetta! Quote
sidewinder Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 (edited) An uncle of mine once parked one of these (actually a Messerschmidt) in front of a wall and as it was front-opening only and didn't do reverse, he couldn't get out. Edited October 24, 2007 by sidewinder Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 I was down at a BMW repair shop in south Austin this spring and they had one of the 600s, pretty cool if you ask me. (though at 6'6" I wouldn't really fit in it...) Quote
mikeweil Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 These were rather common on the streets here when I was a boy. There were many different models of small cars, one of them being the Goggomobil (what a priceless name!). One of our school teachers, a rather weighty lady, drove one of these, and we always figured if she might use a shoehorn to get inside ... Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 A friend of mine, who used to play trumpet in symphony orchestras, had one of those in the early sixties, when he lived in London. When classical music gigs were thin on the ground, he did theatrical gigs and managed at this period to work three gigs a night in different theatres, using the Isetta to slide in between the traffic to get from one gig to the other. The middle gig of each evening required him to be on stage and blow a fanfare, dressed in Roman soldier's uniform. He'd whip out of that gig and into his Isetta - still dressed as a Roman! - and on to the next. Once he couldn't get there in time to change out of the uniform into mufti, so appeared in the orchestra pit still dressed as a Roman. That was the end of his three gigs a night work! MG Quote
BERIGAN Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 I'd be afraid if I rode over one of those in my Lincoln, it would put a big dent in my oil pan! Quote

In a different style, there was the Messerschmitt Kabinenroller (from the maker of army aircrafts during WWII): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messerschmitt_KR200 Quote
