With Rowe?  HOW can you pass up that trio...

:rofl:

I won't talk to you anymore before you buy "Funny Rat" back and make me an offer (or just send it as a gift - minimum of rat-solidarity, that would have been!)

That's funny, when I offered it on this very board a while ago, no one wanted it...

Now, Tony admit it - did you sell your Funny Rat to Hans? And then impudently refused to buy it back?! Is this why Hans stopped posting here and went listening to all this Hank Mobley stuff?!?!

I am now listening to this disc:

Mujician - Colours Fulfilled

featuring Tony Levin, Keith Tippett, Paul Dunmall and Paul Rogers.  Fantastic music!  Not as fiery and furious as I had expected.  There are some wild moments but, so far (track #2) I have a great sense of a huge power barely kept restrained, as if they are ready to explode at a moments notice.  Very interesting music and great playing.

:tup

Friends, this is some great and very original music played by some of the most impressive musicians out there (I still have some reservations aboutr Dunmall - he is good, but probably the least original of the foursome, at least on tenor - his bagpipes are something else). Highly recommended. Tony, it is not that brutal, really.

Honestly, it's not very good.

That's an understatement. In my opinion it sucks :tdown

Thanks for letting me know!

Hans, my not-reacting when you had it on sale has to do with several things: I may have been short of money (happens all the time), or I may have not seen it (I don't read the Offering & Looking for forums regularly). Also I buy music on impulse, don't have any list (except a mental one), and generally everything is beyond control... :unsure:

HA!

The price for that set seems to be creeping up. You paid $81; a couple of days ago another set sold for $74.56; ten days ago another set sold for $71.00.

Not too bad, considering that I believe I saw this set go for $100+ in the past.

~~~~~~~~~
Hey! Your meter just went past 10,000!
I'm very curious about Dunmall's bagpipe work: never heard any of it but it seems to be highly praised. Bagpipes, ferchrissakes ! Who'da thunk it?
It's the best MUJICIAN of them all (I like also BIRDMAN, recorded two years before).
Highly recommended.
The bagpipes work of DUNMALL is exceptionnal. Try any of his DUNS solo bagpipes or his masterpiece on the instrument so far: SOLO BAGPIPES (SHAWBACANSIED) on FMR.
You can also check his duet with ROGERS on EMANEM (AWARENESS RESPONSE) or his trio with ROGERS and KEVIN NORTON on CIMP (two recorded back to back, RYLICKOLUM: FOR YOUR PLEASURE & GO FORTH DUCK) where DUNMALL plays in each one a bagpipes piece.
There's also one very interesting live record on EMANEM, IN YOUR SHELL LIKE, where DUNMALL plays two duo on bagpipes with STEVIE WISHART's hurdy-gurdy and two trio with her and the add of no less than PAUL LYTTON. Great music and a strange mix between the Bagpipes and the hurdy-gurdy - sound like EAI to me at time (I was at the concert where this things where recorded).
On all of these albums, DUNMALL plays also *GREAT* TENOR or soprano sax as he has done previously on any MUJICIAN (that's is just a stone thrown in the garden of our friend David. Na!).
The duo with PAUL LYTTON (first time they play together as a duo) on IN YOUR SHELL LIKE are also stunning!
Hehehehe... nostalgic rats, us!
I'm going to pull out both Funny Rat and Daredevil tomorrow. I might as well join in the nostalgia!
Don't have Funny Rat, but will do my Dried Rat Dog and Daredevil duties this week.
I can better that:  I had Funny Rat but sold it on eBay.
:o
Honestly, it's not very good.
That's an understatement. In my opinion it sucks :tdown
You guys are messing with my head! 5000 posts about an album that nobody likes!
Chaney's original thread was about Funny Girl, starring Barbara Streisand and Omar Sharif. People didn't go for it, so he switched to Broetzmann and Hano, which at least got some discussions going.
Thanks for clarifying that, John.
I've tried to play along but I really don't know what these blokes have been on about.
Can we FINALLY get back on topic?
Eremite has two new releases due to be out soon. The Fred Anderson disc I mentioned previously, as it was recorded at a concert I attended, The other release will be a new Sunny Murray double disc set, with Sabir Mateen, Dave Burrell, Alan Silva, Louis Belogenis, Oluyemi Thomas & John Blum appearing on various tracks.
I'm really looking forward to hearing Oluyemi with Sunny.
For the Gino Robair fans on the board, he reviews Explosions, by Bob James in the new issue of Signal to Noise. The article is on ESP Disk and various people reiew odd, underrated and / or essential ESP releases.
Regarding Potlatch, I've sampled The Difference Between a Fish, The Contest of Pleasures, and I'm now listeing to Strom.
Early impression is that each is presenting its sonic vision of hell; the polar opposite of new age music.
It's going to take me a good long while to get these.
Just noticed that David has been listening to the very scary:
The Contest of Pleasures
John Butcher l Xavier Charles l Axel Dörner
Have you formed an (early?) opinion yet?
I'm about to dive back in and give this one a full listen.
Not sure yet. Found it too cold. Went for "Toad in the Hole" (Guberman/Ingalls/Robair/Rosenberg/Shiurba) on Limited Sedition, and enjoying it more. It is about to finish in a couple of minutes, and I am willing to join you in your listenining, although I'd propose Blondy/Ninh disc.
