CDs That Skip After Years in Their Cases

For all of the drawbacks of vinyl, I can say this: I have never pulled out a clean LP after many years and had it randomly skip all over the place.

Wish I could say the same for CDs. I'll come across something that I haven't heard in ages, pop it in, and - not always, but more often than I'd like - the thing randomly starts skipping.

Has anyone else encountered this? I can't imagine that I'm doing anything beyond the usual with these things.

Various CDs from the late 80s and early 90s. Yes, I've now tried them in different players and that seems to help. Thanks!

If you hold the CDs up to a light, do you see pin holes? I had one connoisseur from the early 90s that had this. I guess it is called fallout. I use to get this also on laser discs and it would sometimes skip that section.
