Regal Zonophone (well known for its Salvation Army and Joe Cocker recordings :))

and Marc Boland/T Rex, Neil Ardley and Cosmic Eye Dream Sequence ! :)

I think one of my earliest singles - 'Neanderthal Man' by 'Hotlegs' (they went on to become 10CC) - was on Regal Zonophone. Also 'Brontosaurus' by 'The Move'.

Must have been my prehistoric musical phase!

Somehow connected to this subject I guess: FOPP, in Cambridge Circus (Shaftesbury Ave/Charing Cross Rd) is carrying a sizeable bunch of RVGs for 3 quid each. Mainly regular fare with a few surprises. Not a single Copy Protection in sight, I should add.

I'm not connected with the shop in any way, besides the typical scavenging.

I like Public Image better than the Sex Pistols.

Oh, HELL yeah! And I actually like the Sex Pistols...

Actually, Roadrunner was often part of their set.

The Sex Pistols covered Roadrunner? Oh my god...I think I just had a chewy moment...

 It's on their Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle album, along with some '50s covers like "Rock Around The Clock" and "C'mon Everybody." Though some covers (and other material) are minus Johnny.

Yes, and at one point Lydon starts muttering, "I forgot the words...stop it, it's awful, it's bloody f*&&ing awful!"

WHO? Them's fighin' words! Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers, although spending the eighties in the Bay Area means the version that sounds "right" to me is Greg Khin's.

So this is a third tune with the same title?

Never heard of Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers; nor Greg Khin. Unsurprising, I guess. They're locals, are they? :g

Even I've heard of Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers - I don't think I've ever heard their music consciously, but recall them being praised in the UK music press in the mid-late 70s at a time I was desperately thrashing around trying to find something to enjoy in the post-Year Zero rock world.

You missed the late 70s/early 80s, MG? :rsmile:

Never was interested in modern rock after '62, except '69, when I worked in a record shop and had to put up with what I had to put up with :)

Speaking of Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers, D. Sharpe who played drums with the band, lives just blocks away from me. I deliver his mail. :g
