ghost of miles Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 (edited) Never heard of it--just now stumbled across it while looking for something else on Amazon: Midnight Walk EDIT: OK, evidently no obscurity, and release date was 1966. Edited May 17, 2010 by ghost of miles Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 This is new to me as well. I wonder how Hank Mobley's playing is at time point in his life. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 Strong record and Mobley sounds good. I don't have And Then Again, however - curious about that one. Quote
ghost of miles Posted May 17, 2010 Author Report Posted May 17, 2010 This is new to me as well. I wonder how Hank Mobley's playing is at time point in his life. In 1966, still very good. The '76 date listed for the vinyl threw me--that would have been a much more questionable period. I'll confess that I don't really know anything about possible/attempted Hank studio appearances after 1973. Quote
JSngry Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 The Steeplechase audition date w/Tete Motolieeuouew(sp?) audition date was, when, 1978? And Then Again - good, not great, Midnight Walk is still the best Elvin/Atlantic imo. Also more Hank/Elvin/Atlantic on the Elvin/Philly Joe album, for those who care. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 Yeah, nice rendition of David Baker's "Le-Roi" on that one. Quote
Pete C Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 I had that on lp when I was a teenager (ca. 1972, from a cutout bin) and fell in love with Dollar Brand's Tintiyana. That was my introduction to Brand. Quote
mjzee Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 Rare for Ibrahim to do a backing gig. I'll have to check that one out. Quote
