Enough Henderson on Victor for French RCA to release a double CD a few years ago...

I still love those "Jazz tribune" twofers.

I bought a massive number a few years back - for "an apple and an egg" as we say around here - and they've been good to me.

...

Nostalgia.

*sigh*

Lunceford Decca is terrific news - although with brownie's help I got his run of Masters of Jazz... the prospect of a Mosaic set is great!

Some of the very finest big band jazz ever recorded!

Would they be able to work from original masters, or were they destroyed in the Universal fire?

1927 - 3 titles

1931 - 8 titles

1932 - 6 titles

1934 - 4 titles

1936 - 15 titles

And I know of 11 alternates.

There was a US Bluebird vinyl issue similar to the set Brownie mentioned.

Thanks Chuck. I don't know how I missed these. Seems like he was under contract to other labels when he made these? Or were they recorded in between? Or maybe under a different name? All of the above? None of the above?! :P

Henderson does not seem to have had long recording contracts. In 1934 there are 3 Decca Sessions in a row. In 1936 3 Victor sessions. And in 1937/1938 6 sessions in a row for Vocalion. In the 20's it is a patch work. Henderson recorded a lot for a lot of labels. I stopped counting at 15.
