king ubu Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Might be a bit cheaper from amazon.fr by now ... not sure I need this, will have to take a closer look! Quote
crisp Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 No, €40. That £28 must have been a misprice. Quote
Van Basten II Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Yeah, I've not been into soul before but I spent some time listening to music from this set on Spotify last night and enjoyed it. I think I'm going to get this one. Not sure I'm into this stuff either, looks like more disco than soul from what I remembered from the first boxes anyway do you another place to listen to this stuff besides Spotify it ain't available here (Spotify not the boxes ) Quote
king ubu Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 No, €40. That £28 must have been a misprice. I know, but depending on where you live and the consecutive shipping costs ... also xe converter tells me 40€ is about 33£ - so definitely cheaper. Quote
sidewinder Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 (edited) Unfortunately the price has increased to £38. Still cheap, but not the huge bargain it was. Hope you didnt sleep on it like I did! Sadly.... yes I did. Ah well, it'll be back (he says hopefully). I did have a look on Spotify and couldn't find it but did enjoy catching up on some MFSB and Jones Girls disco stuff for old times sake ! Edited May 1, 2014 by sidewinder Quote
crisp Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 The actual box isn't on Spotify but many of the albums are. That's what I listened to. I don't know of any other free streaming sites. Quote
crisp Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 The Beach Boys six-discer Made In California is about £32 from two Amazon Marketplace sellers, one US, one UK, here. I got mine this morning from the UK seller Mediamine – perfectly fine. Quote
Van Basten II Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 Not sure if that's a bargain or an overpriced collection of material slowly getting out of copyright "prison " , looks interesting, anybody can share more light on this set, details are sketchy at best http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IY28XK0/ref=pe_208681_48552121_em_1p_0_ti Quote

But the set will be interesting listening and broad in scope (120 different artists for the 269 cuts). Quote
crisp Posted May 17, 2014 Report Posted May 17, 2014 Sony's forthcoming Philadelphia International box is £28 preorder on Amazon UK (20 discs). More details on The Second Disc. After rising to £38 this has dropped back down to £32. Quote

Haven't listened to it yet, but it's a sturdy long box, with a thick booklet in landscape format, not the easiest to handle. Plenty of images, not much text, and no detailed discographical data, only year of release. As for copyright issues, there's a note saying that The Vee-Jay® logo is a registered trademark of Vee-Jay Limited Partnership [...] used under licence by Artistry Music Limited. I haven't seen any mention to sources or master tapes. F Edited May 19, 2014 by Fer Urbina Quote
mjzee Posted May 19, 2014 Report Posted May 19, 2014 How long is each disc, 40-ish minutes or 70-ish minutes? Quote
Fer Urbina Posted May 19, 2014 Report Posted May 19, 2014 How long is each disc, 40-ish minutes or 70-ish minutes? CDs 1 to 7 are 28 tracks each, CD 8 has 30, CD 9 has 26 and CD 10 (jazz), 17. All close to the 80 min. mark, I suppose. F Quote
felser Posted May 19, 2014 Report Posted May 19, 2014 (edited) The big issue wil be the sound quality/sourcing. I would not be shocked if a lot of the cuts are from vinyl sources. Edited May 19, 2014 by felser Quote

king ubu Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 Their international shipping is high (I don't know how high really), but it might be worth mentioning that discplus.ch has the three Django "season" boxes (containing all the volumes of their "Intégrale") at a very good price (roughly 25€ per box): Saison 1 - 1928-1938 (14 CD) Saison 2 - 1938-1947 (14 CD) Saison 3 - 1947-1953 (12 CD) in case the links don't work, go here and do a search for "Django saison": http://discplus.ch/ Turns out to be around 118 or 130€ delivered to the US (economy/priority shipping), 106 or 114€ to France or Germany ... not that much of a bargain then, but still not bad, I guess (shipping makes no difference between 2 or 3 of the boxes, for just 1 it's somewhat less, but still pricey ... and now, I couldn't help out, it would probably cost me as much to send them to the US as they charge - they obviously don't have one of those slave labour contracts with mail services the way big bad evil A has, so they're charging actual shipping costs).
