bertrand
As I mentioned on the Gryce thread, Daedalus books has a number of Fantasy cut-outs (many of which are probably OOP). There are a lot of titles that were not in other Fantasy 'dumps' (Oldies, Concord). Below is a list I put together from their website. This list focuses mostly on OJC; I did not include Pablos, Milestones or compilations, and left off more recent stuff (e.g. later Rollins). There were titles in the store that are not on their site, and there are titles on the site that I did not see in the store. Next time I am there, I will write down some of the titles that are not in the list below. Bertrand. Fer Urbina
Has anyone ordered from Daedalus internationally? I'm asking because they don't tell you how much they're going to charge you for shipping, that it'll be "at cost". Which in my experience can be anything, really. Thanks, F Edited November 26, 2010 by Fer Urbina
paul secor
The Daedalus mail order catalogs say $5.95 per order, no matter what size.
Fer Urbina
This is what I get on the site International Delivery: Delivery charges are actual cost, which will vary with the weight of the order. F

F My bad - the delivery charge I quoted was for domestic orders.
bertrand
I'll try to remember to ask next time I go. That's kind of steep for domestic. Bertrand.
J.A.W.
It's been years since I last ordered from Daedalus, but if I remember correctly their international shipping rates were pretty steep at the time.
bertrand
I'm sorry that my efforts will mostly help out U.S. board members. With $5.95 for shipping, it will mostly help those who see a large number of titles they want; it seems a lot for 1 or 2 titles. I'm lucky I can just drive there. Bertrand. Fer Urbina
Hey, Bertrand, thanks for posting the list, first of all. I placed an order of 13 CDs + a 4-CD set, and got this response Thank you for your order, RXXXXXXXXXX. The U.S. Postal Service has eliminated surface-only direct sack for international orders. The only international shipping method we now offer is Priority Mail International air mail. Daedalus is unable to negotiate any alternatives to or options regarding this shipping method. Daedalus will ship your package by air for $43.25, the actual cost of shipping, based on the weight of the package. Please contact us to let us know if we may proceed with your order. If we have not received a response from you within 3 business days, we will cancel the order. Which is very good, although it'd be better *for them* if they mentioned that they'd ask for confirmation after a shipping quote. So, again, thanks, F
bertrand
I will definitely mention to them that they should mention on their website that they will ask for confirmation. It's in their best interest. Don't know if you decided you'll go for it anyway, but you can assume that this hefty charge with no other options is due to either one of two possibilities: 1) Terrorism fears. 2) The U.S. Postal Service slowly going out of business for 2 reasons: the internet and gross mismanagment. Bertrand.
GA Russell
Thanks for your efforts in making up this list, Bertrand!
paul secor
Part of the reason for the $5.95 domestic charge is that Daedalus also sells books. Several decent sized books can eat up that charge pretty quickly.
jazzbo
The good thing about that domestic charge is. . . doesn't matter how many you order, one price.
bertrand
Went over there today. 1) I suggested they put in a mention on the website that there is a warning for International Shipping. 2) I only saw a few that are not on the website that caught my eye (see below). If you want one of these, you can try sales at 1-800-395-2665, otherwise you can try the store: 410-309-2730 (Columbia, MD) or 410-464-2701 (Baltimore, MD). Bertrand. Walter Bishop: Trio Reverend Gary Davis: Say No To The Devil (on website, but not on my list) Red Garland: Red's Good Groove Freddie Hubbard: Keystone Bop, Volume 2 (Friday/Saturday) (on website, but not on my list) Johnny Hammond Smith: Talk That Talk Clark Terry: Serenade To A Bus Seat Edited November 27, 2010 by bertrand

riverrat
Thanks for taking the time to put this list together Bertrand. For those who see only one title they want, it is probably worth checking Amazon as well. If they have it, shipping would be about half of what Daedalus charges, i.e. $2.99. Stefan Wood
Regarding the postal charges, it has been a couple of years since the USPS eliminated surface mail as an option.
bertrand
1) If Amazon has it (most likely through Newbury comics), it will also not be a cut-out, which bothers some people (not me). Definitely a better way to go for one title. I ordered Shirley Scott's Like Cozy for $5. 2) The Bishop has become a rarity. I've picked up a couple at Daedalus this year for our local Butch Warren nuts. It's not on the website and there was only one copy on display at the Columbia store. It may well be the last one they will ever get... 3) One I didn't list: Houston Person's Legends Of Acid Jazz. Not usually a Person fan, but how is Grant Green on this one? Bertrand. Victor Christensen
Shipping for Europe is really costly, All About Jazz will charge me 15$ if I am so lucky to get Gryce's "Hap'nin's" at the price of 15.98$ for the CD. Vic

Vic That's steep. I usually pay somewhere between $5 and $7 shipping to Europe for 1 CD.
