bertrand Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Is this available on CD at a reasonable price, or should I go the download route? Bertrand. Quote
BillF Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 I've had it on vinyl since the 70s and it's a great record. As far as I'm aware, it's never been issued on CD. Better go for the download! Quote
sonnymax Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Although Ephemera is available for download, that there are complaints about the sound quality. On eMusic, customers claim it's a needle drop from an inferior LP. This criticism could apply to the Ephemera files from other music download services as well. Quote
Stonewall15 Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 (edited) I have Ephemera on CD. Stereo sound quality is excellent. Recorded in London, 1973. Pepper Adams, Roland Hanna (p), George Mraz (b), Mel Lewis (d). Email me at hershia@cfl.rr.com for more details. Edited March 28, 2011 by Stonewall15 Quote

Mark Stryker Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) http://www.freep.com/article/20110313/ENT04/103130385/1039/ENT04/Pepper-Adams-gets-his-due-2-new-albums Apologies for temporarily hijacking this thread, but I just wanted to point out an interesting multi-disc recording project focused on Pepper Adams' compositions that's being produced by Gary Carner, an Adams champion and in-progress biographer. (His website, pepperadams.com, has lots of great stuff, including a detailed chronology of Adams' life and career.) The link above takes you to a recent review of the first two in the series, which are really nice records and happen to cover four of the compositions on "Ephemera." Now back to your regularly scheduled program ... Edited March 29, 2011 by Mark Stryker Quote
bertrand Posted March 29, 2011 Author Report Posted March 29, 2011 Actually, you are not hikacking at all. My question is directly related to Gary's project. A friend of mine is trying to organize a Pepper tribute in D.C. so I am gathering recordings of the 43 compositions inventoried by Gary. That's why I was looking for Ephemera. I have two of the three titles Gary has issued so far, but I'd also like to get as many of Pepper's original interpretations as I can. I can tell that some will be tricky to come by. The Frank Basile and Jeremy Kahn/Gary Smulyan are highly recommended; great music indeed. I will get the trio 'record' soon. Bertrand. Quote
Stonewall15 Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 Pepper Adams Ephemera was on Spotlight label. Quote
sidewinder Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 Pepper Adams Ephemera was on Spotlight label. I keep seeing lots of stuff on CD put out by Tony Russell/Spotlite (not sure about this one) so it wouldn't suprise me if this one is also now out on CD. Will keep my eyes peeled ! Quote
Head Man Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 Pepper Adams Ephemera was on Spotlight label. Is that "Spotlight" or "Spotlite"? Quote

sonnymax Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 Pepper Adams Ephemera was on Spotlight label. Forgive me, but I'm unclear about your answer. Yes, Ephemera was released on LP by Spotlite. Are you saying that the CD you own was also issued by Spotlite? Quote
mikeweil Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 I couldn't find a CD issue on Spotlite label lists ... Quote
Stonewall15 Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 You guys are correct. It was made from an LP. Sound is still great. Quote
sonnymax Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 So then, we're talking about a CDr, not a CD? Quote
medjuck Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Download from Amazon does have a lot of pops and crackles. Great record though. Quote
