mikeweil Posted September 3, 2011 Report Posted September 3, 2011 What can I say when I cannot listen to this? Sure would like to hear it - Ted Dunbar in particular could be interesting. Quote
bertrand Posted September 3, 2011 Report Posted September 3, 2011 (edited) I agree about Dunbar - not enough of him in my collection. I prefer his work with Tony Williams' Lifetime over McLaughlin's (heresy I know). Only 4 tunes so maybe it is unfinished. In the heyday of BN reissues, they could have tacked these onto one of the other LPs. But they heyday of reissues is over. When was the last BN reissue series? Three years or so? I remember buying a couple of RVGs in the fall of 2008 (Turrentine's Dearly Beloved and Lou Donaldson's Takin' Off). Was that the last batch? Bertrand. Edited September 3, 2011 by bertrand Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 3, 2011 Report Posted September 3, 2011 Yeah, I bet it's cool. Agreed - BN seems more interested in releasing drivel like Jeff Bridges than anything from the vaults (or even really strong contemporary improvised music). Quote
Dave James Posted September 3, 2011 Report Posted September 3, 2011 Blue Note has been reinfected by what I call "Sidewinder Syndrome". That's when they stumble on a song like "The Sidewinder" or an artist like Norah Jones and spend the next few years trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube. Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 3, 2011 Report Posted September 3, 2011 Actually I think they keep trying to squeeze more toothpaste out of the tube. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted September 4, 2011 Author Report Posted September 4, 2011 Michael Cuscana says (about this, and "Green Acid"): "No master tapes were ever found on these." I vowed to find the former liberty employee who has them in a box in his basment, and promptly deliver the box to Rudys for mastering. Quote
