chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez
hi i have gold label prestige issue, non-vangelder stapmed. my Q: is this an earlier jack mcduff issue switched to be under the drummers name, or is this a seperate, unique drummer-led soul jazz organ album. also i do not know much about the gold label issues, that was a very short-lived thing, right? mikeweil
It was drummer Joe Dukes' date, who was a member of McDuff's band at the time. IIRC there were reisues under Benson's and/or McDuff's names. The link tomatamot posted doesn't work properly - click here for better results. I have this on a reissue lp from sometime in the last five years or so. Unfortunately I could not find it to read the notes. My impression is that it was his date. Edit: the link works if you just remove the duplicate http:// Edited August 4, 2012 by Eric

chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez
he mentoins "hissy vinyl" yes. i have some albums, some very very clean copies....but VERY "hissy vinyl". what is this, and what causes this, is it something in the manuf. process or parts.he also says: Recycled vinyl that hisses. One of the Prestige’s fatal economies in the early Sixties, recycled vinyl contained fragments of previous labels and micro-detritus, that results in an audible hiss throughout replay. All early Sixties Prestige, New Jazz especially, need to be checked for hissy vinyl and some releases are available only with hiss. The hiss is not trivial, it is quite obtrusive. This gold label is one of them, and allows you to glimpse a future life with severe tinnitus. ----------- I highly doubt that prestige was pulling a 'Crown' and recycling vinyl lps into new vinyl. i wonder what his source was on that

The Magnificent Goldberg
I've got LOADS of hissy Prestige. Well, if that's how it comes, that's how it goes. Doesn't put me off the music. MG
Big Beat Steve
Hee hee, seems like Prestige at one point really tried their best to outcrown the Crown label!
