Mark Stryker
Wow. What a document. Great charts. Slide plays his ass off on Mack the Knife -- the strength of his time and the hipness of his lines. On Milestones the speed, clarity, articulation are all incredibly impressive but nothing the substances of the lines means that nothing reads a simple change running. In the cadenza to Summertime he using circular breathing & multi-phonics. Something else ... Head Man
I recently bought all his recent Japanese Atlantic re-issues and I must say I was impressed. He's not someone I'd given a lot of attention to in the past but hearing these for the first time really opened up my ears!

sidewinder
How did I miss this one? Just noticed that a ‘new’ Slide Hampton Octet is playing Smalls this weekend and will definitely check it out on the video stream.
Niko
what's notable about the line-ups is that the drummer of the new Slide Hampton Octet is Charles Ruggiero who uploaded the above videos because his dad plays on those. (It's an interesting youtube channel anyway, with a selection of Vinnie Ruggiero - and Charlie's own efforts that range from bop to hard rock)
