mikeweil Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Well, no mention of the smaller jazz part of the VeeJay catalogue ... Quote
paul secor Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Probably another case where Concord will reissue the common stuff and let the rest of the catalog sit in their vaults. Quote
AllenLowe Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 I wonder if they'll surprise everyone and actually pay the families, since no one got paid originally. Vee-Jay was terrible. and few people know this, but Vijay Iyer's parents named him after the label. Quote
Van Basten II Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Good thing they weren't fans of Yellow dog records Quote
erwbol Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Probably another case where Concord will reissue the common stuff and let the rest of the catalog sit in their vaults. Perhaps the Japanese could play a role here? They just reissued the whole Prestige 7000 series, warts and all. Quote
Dan Gould Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 It still amazes me that in all the reissues of VeeJay material, the 45 Baby Face Willette recorded has never been issued. I recently saw a new VeeJay label comps on Amazon, thinking it might be there, but no. Oh well - if you have Allen's blues set, you've heard the two tracks. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 A nice Caravans compilation wouldn't go amiss. And some Rev Maceo Woods, too. But, I kind of agree with Paul. Some hopes. MG Quote
johnblitweiler Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 Why did Concord buy Vee-Jay? Hard to imagine them reissuing the sacred music, and I believe Jimmy Reed was the only popular musician who stayed with them for any length of time. There were Sid McCoy's jazz productions, but would they interest the big-time operators who run Concord? How about a MJT+3 boxed set? Quote
JSngry Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Billy Vera got involved the last time any concerted Vee-Jay reissue program occurred, and good things happened while that lasted iirc. As to why they would buy it, my hunch is for licensing as much as actually issuing. Quote
JSngry Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 There will always be some commercial that thinks it needs "Raindrops"... Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted July 19, 2014 Report Posted July 19, 2014 Was part of the deal an interest in ARC music? Chess, Vee-Jay and Benny Goodman's brother (forget his first name, Tommy I think) were the partners. ARC music songs go on forever. MG Quote
