According to their website, new releases from Storyville Records are coming out soon.

And they´re going to relaunch the Masters of Jazz series: 12 new CDs, 6 to be released on May. No idea of what will come out, but the previous volumes on these series combine very rare sessions with others easily available elsewhere. A mixed bag.

Clark Terry, Sidney Bechet, Johnny Hodges are 3 of them.

Thanks for your input, Chris.

Wasn´t there already a Bechet (and a Hodges) volume in the previous Masters of Jazz series?

Hodges (Master of Jazz vol.9)

Bechet (Master of Jazz vol.4)

Looks like Storyville is recycling their live recordings from Copenhagen. All four 'new' releases have been out on Storyville before!

So sad if this is their new policy!

Anyway, regarding the Warne Marsh disc, they claim that

... This CD comprises tracks he recorded in Copenhagen on April 21 1980 with the Kenny Drew Trio for a Danish radio broadcast and is the first authorised release of this music.

Storyville sale at Jazz Loft ($ 7.97 & 12.47 per disc)

Expires Sunday, October 7th.

Good hunt!

I ordered these:

Willie Smith Live Zurich Switzerland (1) @ $7.97

Billy Strayhorn Piano Passion (1) @ $12.47

Duke Ellington Live at Carnegie Hall Dec. 11, 1943 (1) @ $7.97

Duke Ellington The Duke In Munich (1) @ $7.97

Duke Ellington The Piano Player (1) @ $7.97

Duke Ellington Togo Brava Suite (1) @ $7.97

and got a shipping notice for all except the Strayhorn, which I assume was sold out or otherwise unavailable.

Thanks for the info, brownie.

Has anyone cared to compare the tracklist from this box set with what was previously available from Storyville and/or other labels?

Haven't tackled this yet. Since Storyville does not give much details, the task looks a bit difficult at the present.

Disc 8 looks like the previously issued 'No Fool, No Fun'

That sucks. Storyville used to have new interesting stuff coming out every month. Where's the Complete Ellington at Cotton Club 1938 that was promised? New D.E.T.S. volumes? New Ellington stockpile recordings (also promised)? I suspect they don't have the people to pull it off any longer, and have to recycle old stuff instead. Sad.

Anyway, Storyville's text about the Webster box starts with this line:

"More than 35 years after his death Ben Webster’s music remains fresh, contemporary and original"

More than 35 years? Ben Webster died in September 1973.
