Brad Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Since we're in this vein, where is PD? He seems to have gone for a very long time and in my brief soujourns to AAJ, I don't see him there either. Any info? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 See this thread on AAJ for his little rant. Quote
Brad Posted February 26, 2004 Author Report Posted February 26, 2004 Thanks for the link. I have to agree with him regarding Deep, a person in need of help. But like most of us I don't agree with his position on not posting. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Well, he tends to be very reactionary. Just check out this thread from awhile back. My brother moved one of P.D.'s thread to it's rightful forum (just moved it... he didn't delete it) and P.D. freaked out and started creating a bunch of topics called "censorship!" He even posted about it on AAJ on this thread. I don't know why he flips out like he does. He needs to chill. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 (edited) Rant is right. I don't understand how people get so worked up about the presence of others on bulletin boards. DEEP was confined to a single fucking thread; yet you've got people who wish to leave just because he is on that thread. How do these people handle living in the world? Lots of assholes in it. Do you just LEAVE??? Edited February 26, 2004 by connoisseur series500 Quote
catesta Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 PD is a good guy. We all have our own issues as to what sets us off and what we are cool with. I know he had some personal issues with D'Imperio at AAJ, very similar to Bev. He started posting a little at AAJ again, and I hope he starts here, the man has a crap load of knowledge and is very generous with it. Quote
catesta Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 For the record, I agree people should just continue to post and let shit roll off. However, I am sympathetic to PD's cause on one of those threads, only because I know exactly who he was talking about and I had a similar experience with that poster, who I might add is a total jackass. JSngry could probaly attest to that fact better than anyone. Quote
couw Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 ... only because I know exactly who he was talking about and I had a similar experience with that poster, who I might add is a total jackass. ... damn, and here I was, thinking he must have been in a brawl with you! Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 I don't know PD, though I've seen some of his posts. I hope he does return too. No need to leave because people exist who are incompatible with you. Quote
JSngry Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 PD is cool with me. He's a character, and proceeds accordingly. I like characters. Keeps life real. Quote
patricia Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 (edited) Well, PD is an elegant Englishman and they are quite reserved. The combination of his sensibilities with the "barbarians" on this side of the pond was sometimes a little uncomfortable to read, but I always enjoyed his view from another perspective. l p Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 not only a good guy, but quite a cyber stalker as well. Quote

Tim McG Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 OK. My issue is with how you conduct yourself on a BBS. DEEP has issues. PD, aparently, has issues. So do I. So do you. Who do we vote off the Jazz "island" then? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 What does voting people off have anything to do with this? He left of his own accord. Quote
Tim McG Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 Based upon how much grief...? TBH, if PD wants to go...then go. If DEEP won't cooperate...then go. My concern is with why this is an issue and why people decide to go. [Had some experience in this area on Jazz Corner] Quote
EKE BBB Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 PD is a good guy. We all have our own issues as to what sets us off and what we are cool with. He started posting a little at AAJ again, and I hope he starts here, the man has a crap load of knowledge and is very generous with it. Word! PD may be a "character", but he´s a nice guy, who has made me discover tons of wonderful music. Wish he were (here and at AAJ) posting again. Quote
Tim McG Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 What does voting people off have anything to do with this? He left of his own accord. A euphamism to make a point, my friend. Nothing else. Quote
P.D. Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 (edited) One of the many friends that I made during my addiction to Jazz BBs, brought this thread to my attention via an email. If B3’er wishes to besmirch my lily white character and reputation, I wish he would NOT do it by posting references to selected threads, but more fairly by linking ALL the appropriate threads… unfortunately this would require AAJ postings which were lost in the hack attack. I left the BB’s in DEEP despair Not because of personal insults from the purveyor of prurient interest.. I doubt that there are any who could insult me enough to put me off my beer and / or Jazz, but because I was tired of seeing the boards reduced to the lowest common denominator, taking on the appearance of a group of tittering children, giggling over schoolyard vulgarities.. rather like small British infants who discover that shouting “ Knickers” loudly will cause concern in the adult population. ( if that is beyond comprehension see the Lennon reference in I am the Walrus ) I was somewhat bemused by the fact that Org set up a separate thread to confine Deep within it. Years ago when I lived in St. Louis, the city zoo had a famous gorilla in a cage. It produced copious amounts of fecal matter which it took great pleasure in hurling at the tourists and visitors to the zoo who crowded around the cage to see the beast. The knowledgeable regulars stood at a safe distance, out of line of the projectiles, but totally enjoyed the discomfort of those recipients of the scatalogical attacks. Somehow this strikes me as a fitting analogy to Deep’s tenure here. Alas it seems that he has outstayed his welcome here to. Whatever happened to the concepts of free speech?????????????? I see he is now running rampant through the European BNBB.. perhaps I should don my pith helmet….. Three or Four months withdrawal, cold turkey from the boards, has left me less addicted. I miss some of the regulars.. quite a few who also seem to have taken a leave of absence. The topic content of all the boards seem less interesting now, but in fairness the Org threads do seem to have a bit more meat than others elsewhere. However until something really inspires me.. perhaps Mosaics announcement that they will issue the Complete Jonah Jones Capitols, or perhaps a Compendium of Ace Cannons finest moments, I shall a lurker remain. In the meantime, I would prefer that B3’er took a leaf out of Paul Harvey’s book and told either the rest of, or the complete story. Edited March 3, 2004 by P.D. Quote
EKE BBB Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 Stay round here, PD, and not only lurking! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 I guess I'm not aware of the whole story, P.D., and if I jumped to conclusions then I apologize. I appreciate having you here and you have every right to react to situations anyway you choose, but I don't necessarily understand those reactions. And I've never been one for the huffy "I'm leaving and here's why" threads. But I should probably just keep my mouth shut. Truth be told, my reasoning for letting Danny post here as long as he did was to give him enough rope to hang himself. I caught a ton of shit for banning Greg, a decision I do not regret in any way and that I think was totally justified. But I got a lot of crap about it nevertheless. Before banning Danny, I wanted to let him dig a DEEP enough hole that no one could complain once I got rid of him. It worked. Now that he's gone I'm happy to see some people returning that his presence chased off, right or wrong. You and I may not agree on how a board should be run or various other things but I still appreciate you being here. Quote
Brad Posted March 3, 2004 Author Report Posted March 3, 2004 PD, I wish you'd return and not just be a lurker. On the old BNBB you made many a contribution, especially in pre 1940s jazz and we could surely use that voice here now. Quote

Beside P.D., I owe you one and I have been waiting for a 'looking for' post from you to offer you something in return. Quote
