Hardbopjazz Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 Does anyone know if this 5 CD set of singles released through the years by Blue Note contain different takes than what was on the albums? Some of the timings are different than what's on the albums. It may be that the 45's were cut down to fit on a side. Quote
Dan Gould Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 He may confirm but I could swear Chuck once told me that the 45s were almost always edits of the LP tracks. I had been curious about Three Sounds 45s possibly being different. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 Sometimes edits, sometimes different takes from the same session, sometimes different takes from different sessions, sometimes just split into two parts, sometimes totally different tunes not on album at all, sometimes just like the LP. I think pretty much all the options were explored, to a greater or lesser degree. Quote
David Ayers Posted May 19, 2016 Report Posted May 19, 2016 Maybe they should rerelease these as actual singles? Quote
JSngry Posted May 20, 2016 Report Posted May 20, 2016 Seriously, if they include 78s, won't some things be seeing reissue for the first time, or close to it? Like the Pigmeat Markham thing. Quote
mikeweil Posted May 20, 2016 Report Posted May 20, 2016 (edited) When I look at the tracklist I find it to be a rather superficial compilation, not complete (of course not), no B sides (except fo longer two-sided tracks), aimed at the newbie collector rather than the connoisseur - who needs this? felser Posted May 20, 2016 Report Posted May 20, 2016 Does anyone else find it perverse that a set containing (at least some) single edits would be entitled "Uncompromising Expression"? Quote

robertoart Posted May 21, 2016 Report Posted May 21, 2016 Mmmm...six tunes to represent 65 through the whole of The Seventies. Maybe it is about 'uncompromising expression', and they will release the juke box favourites later. Did they ever realise any Ornette or Don Cherry '45's Quote
paul secor Posted May 21, 2016 Report Posted May 21, 2016 Or how about a Cecil 45. I'd love to hear that on a jukebox. No joke. Quote

JSngry Posted May 22, 2016 Report Posted May 22, 2016 I see nothing on here from the Ike Quebec 45 sessions, of which there was a nice Mosaic set, so I'm questioning both uncompromising and integrity as they pertain to this set. Quote
kh1958 Posted May 23, 2016 Report Posted May 23, 2016 I seem to recall from long ago that the Recovery Room had Blue Train in its jukebox, but it played backwards (part II then part I)? Quote
JSngry Posted May 23, 2016 Report Posted May 23, 2016 You're right about it being on there. Not sure about the sequencing. Quote
mjzee Posted May 23, 2016 Report Posted May 23, 2016 I don't think this is meant to contain every single BN ever released, just a representative sample. BN Japan (King?) once released an entire LP of Jimmy Smith singles: Quote
