duaneiac Posted April 8, 2017 Report Posted April 8, 2017 Disc 1 of 2, which contains the broadcasts from Oct. 7 & 14, 1944. Lee iley sings "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "Don't Blaem Me" (including the seldom sung verse on that one). Red McKenzie (unfortunately) sings "Sweet Lorraine". I have to be in the right mood to listen to Red McKenzie and today I wasn't. Quote

mikeweil Posted April 9, 2017 Report Posted April 9, 2017 Next is my own CDR of the three sessions that Teddy Charles and Charles Mingus made together, for Prestige, Atlantic and Debut: - Hackensack, NJ, January 6, 1955: Charles, J.R. Monterose, Mingus, Jerry Segal (Prestige LP Evolution) - New York, November 12, 1956: Charles, Hall Overton, Mingus, Ed Shaughnessy (Atlantic) - New York, July 8, 1955: Mingus, Miles Davis, Britt Woodman, Charles, Elvin Jones (Debut) Just saw they both played on Ralph Sharon's LP Easy Jazz recorded May 2, 1955, but I never heard that one ... and there is a Billie's Bounce by a Metronome All Star Band in which they both played. A Mosaic set of all Metronome All Stars material would be great, but I'm afraid it involves too many labels. Quote
duaneiac Posted April 9, 2017 Report Posted April 9, 2017 1972's Truth Is Fallen was dedicated to the students killed at Kent State and Mississippi State and "all other innocent victims, caught in the cross-fire between repression and rebellion". With a suitable updating of the rock music portions of the piece, this music would be deserving of reviving for a performance in our own troubled times. The second album was from 1974 and featured several of the Brubeck sons along with the likes of Jerry Bergonzi and Peter "Madcat" Ruth. Quote
