Peter Friedman Posted April 30, 2018 Report Posted April 30, 2018 These 2 cds have the same music. My copy is The Great Parisian Session. Quote

duaneiac Posted May 1, 2018 Report Posted May 1, 2018 The first album is marred by the use of the dreaded electric piano on some tracks. The second album was recorded at a long-gone club called "In Your Ear" once located in nearby Palo Alto. I wonder exactly where it was. PA today would be a very unlikely place for a jazz club. In this listener's opinion, that's just more evidence that artists aren't always the best people to judge their own work! Quote

Phil plays well on the session, not so much because of the rhythm section, but almost in spite of it, esp. Richard Davis, who never seems quite in sync with the others, and plays as if he wants to be recognized as co-leader on the date.  Edited May 1, 2018 by John Tapscott Quote

Me personally, I like the way Davis -- and the entire rhythm section -- sounds. And I like the way Phil plays too!  58 minutes ago, soulpope said: To me the Byard + Davis + Dawson combo enhanced each recording session - and this one is no exception ... I'm with you, soulpope.
