HutchFan Posted October 2, 2018 Report Posted October 2, 2018 (edited) Clark Terry - The Globetrotter (Vanguard) Clark must've really liked that red plaid sport-coat. It (re)appears on the cover of at least one other album. And it seems like I've seen him wearing it in other photos as well. EDIT: Maybe I've been listening to too much CT if I'm noticing these sorts of (trivial) things! Edited October 2, 2018 by HutchFan Quote

jeffcrom Posted October 3, 2018 Report Posted October 3, 2018 Treme Brass Band - Gimme My Money Back! (Arhoolie) Wayne Shorter - Emanon (BN). Disc 1, with the chamber orchestra. I'm quite impressed. Quote
jeffcrom Posted October 3, 2018 Report Posted October 3, 2018 Bud Powell - A Portrait of Thelonious (Columbia). I hope nobody will give me too much grief when I reveal that I've been listening to jazz for about 45 years, and today was the first time I heard this excellent album. Better late than never. Hank Mobley - Straight No Filter (BN 1989 reissue). So I have the 1989 and the 2000/2001 CD versions of No Room For Squares, The Turnaround, and Straight No Filter. The earlier reissues group the four recording sessions together (Straight No Filter has two session); the later CDs follow the original LP track groupings, with additional material. I find that I usually prefer to listen to the earlier CDs, with the complete sessions. Quote
jeffcrom Posted October 3, 2018 Report Posted October 3, 2018 (edited) Allman Brothers Band - Fillmore East - Feb. '70 (Grateful Dead). Recorded by the Grateful Dead's sound man, Owsley Stanley, when the two bands were sharing a run at the Fillmore. This has been recently reissued, but I've had the older CD for a few years. Edit: I had forgotten this moment - between two of the songs, Duane Allman acknowledges Chico Hamilton in the audience. Edited October 3, 2018 by jeffcrom Quote

Gheorghe Posted October 3, 2018 Report Posted October 3, 2018 Thelonious Monk : The Prestige sessions from Friday 13th 1953 and from 1954, featuring Julius Watkins, Frank Copeland, Sonny Rollins, Frank Foster etc. Great music ! I´ve always loved it, together with the trio recordings 1952 . Quote
