Peter Friedman Posted January 2, 2020 Report Posted January 2, 2020 Just noticed an error on the list of musicians on the front cover. Claude Williamson is listed though he does not appear on this CD. It should have been Claude's brother, Stu Williamson listed who plays valve trombone on both sessions that are on this CD. Quote

I realize that this band is an extension of the piano-less concept that Mulligan worked out in his famous PJ quartet recordings with Chet Baker. But, compared to those recordings, I'd rather listen to the CJB any day of the week. There's so much more timbral variety here. 1 hour ago, HutchFan said: Such an superb band. ... jazzbo Posted January 2, 2020 Report Posted January 2, 2020 Played around with tubes in my main system today. The change that stuck is I put a six pack of Sylvania 6922 in the ZTPRE and a pair of orange labeled Amperex 7308 in the Monoblocks. Nice speedy but rich sound. Listened to "Bill Evans Trio Live" Verve (from the Complete Verve Recordings box set, disc 5) Miles Davis "Workin'" JVC XRCD Japan (in LP facsimile packaging) "Coltrane '58 the Prestige Recordings" cd box set, disc 1 Maucha Adnet "The Jobim Songbook" Quote

This with Don Byas, others with Hawk in Germany, with Griffin in Edenville (a bit marred by the weak drumming), and again Byas-Idrees Suleiman on "Americans in Europe".
