Re-listening to Hubert Laws recently has me investigating quite a few of my old "stoner jazz" favorites and then I've found a few new ones that would fall into that category. Yesterday I listened to the Return to Forever on ECM (Japanese SHM-CD), then Keith Jarrett "Treasure Island" (Impulse, from one of the two box sets of this material), then Weather Report "Sweetnighter" from the first box set of their entire output. Then I followed up with this one which has echoes of Weather Report to me as well as other fusions--love it: Omar Sosa & NDR Big Band "Es: Sensual" Then I followed the Jacques Morelenbaum trail and listened to this one, new to me and I think fantastic: Myriam Alter, "Where is There" Today I continued on a bit of a fusion bend with a ringer of a Jackie & Roy album, on Japanese CTI Supreme series Blu-Spec cd, "A Wilder Alias," and now I'm on to more of a classic jazz vein with the 12th cd in the "Complete Bill Evans on Verve" box set, Bill with Gomez and Philly Joe. The system is sounding great. . . and I'm really enjoying the listening. As I recall, you have a tube system, right? Quote
Gheorghe Posted January 30, 2020 Report Posted January 30, 2020 One of my favourite live recordings. Here Kenny Burrell digs into the 40´s, playing Diz associated tunes like Birks Work, Lover Man, Rifftide , Get Happy etc. Blakey, Tina Brooks and Bobby Timmons are also very fine. Quote

Yes, I have two systems with Decware preamps, EQ preamps, amplifiers, and headphone amplifiers, most with the "25th Anniversary Mods." I have Decware HR-1 speakers in both, and PS Audio and Rega and Oppo sources. An embarrassment of riches really, I'm glad I was able to build these systems. Quote

Peter Friedman Posted January 30, 2020 Report Posted January 30, 2020 Disc 3 - Tunes - Jamming For Clef, Rose Room, Stompin' At The Savoy Pt 1 & Pt 2 - The group of musicians on tracks 1 and 2 are slightly different on tracks 3 and 4. The first track is way up tempo and I find it less interesting than the medium tempos on the other 3 tracks. Quote

For the uninitiated, the 25th Anniversary Mods refers to tubes, right? Any chance you could post a photo of your setup. I would be very interested in seeing it. Edited January 30, 2020 by Brad Quote

Yes, the Mods are updates to the component power supply that he offers, really changes the sound of the amps in great ways. The components that the mods are done to are tube based. Modern tube designs, hand wired, no circuit boards. . . don't sound like classic old school tube amps, to me they have the best of both solid state and tube in their sound. I don't have a camera, I don't have a phone that connects to the web, and I just don't do photos, sorry. 11 minutes ago, erwbol said: Awesome. Unthinkable in the Netherlands. Now playing: Yes, I know. . . and believe it or not I'm in the smallest house I've lived in since my apartment days, a 100 year old cottage that has been expanded both up and out, but still one of the smallest houses in the neighborhood. I have to rent a storage unit to house much of my stuff as my wife doesn't like "stuff" all around. I've lived in two African countries and traveled through Western Europe, so I know how different that can be. Edited January 30, 2020 by jazzbo Quote

First time ever I listen to MQA as well. Will play around later with enabling/disabling the MQA decoder to see whether it makes any difference. You're in for a treat. Got this new set when it was released (although I do have most of the recordings already) but I've been so busy I've forgotten about it!! Thanks for the reminder/push to drag it out later. Quote
