John Tapscott Posted February 8, 2020 Report Posted February 8, 2020 Some excellent Woody Shaw on this, his last studio date (rec. 1987). He never stopped getting better.  Quote
Coda Posted February 8, 2020 Report Posted February 8, 2020 I was reviewing the charts on jazzweek and noticed a name I haven't seen since 2003. Lolly was living in MA at the time, I think a recent grad of New England Conservatory of Music. We hired her band to play for my wedding out on Block Island, RI. She had to bring all her gear by ferry, the morning after a hurricane. Seas were a bit rough but the ferries starting running in time for all to arrive, some a bit queasy.  I'm thrilled to see she's still making music.   Quote

Gheorghe Posted February 8, 2020 Report Posted February 8, 2020 The wonderful 3rd album of Curtis Fuller for BN. And Curtis playing with Bud on the second half of Bud´s album. Quote

Must keep it in mind for the "best of the year" lists in 10+ months' time. Interesting contrast between Rupert and Garzone whose primary influences sound like Getz and Coltrane, respectively, yet both sound very contemporary. Mr Rupert seems to be going places; I hadn't heard of him a few months ago, but have now heard him on three recordings recently. jazzbo Posted February 9, 2020 Report Posted February 9, 2020 My wife got an impromptu opportunity to have dinner with two of her sisters, so rather than be in the midst of that gabfest I stayed home and am spinning a few discs. Two are ones that arrived in the mail today, both SACDs from Analogue Productions of Blue Note titles: Dexter Gordon, "Dexter Calling" Hank Mobley, "Workout" And in between a disc I finally found that was drifting around elusively in my shelves that I wanted to spin, Buell Neidlinger "Blue Chopsticks: A Portrait of Herbie Nichols" Quote
erwbol Posted February 9, 2020 Report Posted February 9, 2020 (edited) Disconcerting that Analogue Productions' Prestige stereo Hybrid SACD release program has ground to a halt. I really want the remaining Eric Dolphy and Booker Ervin titles. If they are cancelled I'll be upset. Edited February 9, 2020 by erwbol Quote
