JSngry Posted March 9, 2021 Author Report Posted March 9, 2021 From 2010, various texts from the public record set to music (and some purely instrumental music as well)home of the instant classic: But don't stop there, there is no end of wonderful instrumental music on there as well, Ted Hearne is now on my list of names to pay attention to going forth...if it's not too late to catch up to/with the early 21st Century? Better get busy while there's still time! a-HA! I knew there was some Mingus in there, at times overtly! Just ordered: Quote

Beatnik Daddy-O’73 Posted March 9, 2021 Report Posted March 9, 2021 ...where’s the “like” button? ...diggin’ into this pressing for a first listen. One of my favorites. John Coltrane - Africa Brass (UHQCD Japan) Quote

Not just re-released, remastered(remixed?) to add that ECM "sound" to them. I paid no attention until I hear an LP of Thesis, and I was like, WHAAAAAAAA???? Not sure if either it or Fusion has made it to CD in their original mix...Japan, maybe? Otherwise... Quote

The Emanem issue of the Bremen and Stuttgart concerts adds the original takes of "Trudgin'" and "Used To Be." This may be as close as that gets. http://www.emanemdisc.com/E5208.html Quote

Rabshakeh Posted March 9, 2021 Report Posted March 9, 2021 (edited) Now playing: Birthday boy Ornette Coleman and Charlie Haden - Soapsuds, Soapsuds (Artists House, 1977) So, so good. Just finished:. Peer Pressure by Brian Lynch (Criss Cross, 1987) This one is genre work, but done well I think. It is more fun than a lot of other retro stuff from the time. Terrible terrible cover photo - someone needed to turn down the flash. Now on to: Company 5 by Leo Smith, Maarten van Regteren Altena, Derek Bailey, Tristan Honsinger, Anthony Braxton, Steve Lacy and Evan Parker (Incus, 1977) I think this is the pleasantest and easiest to follow of all the Companys, probably because so many of the players had a more intimate relationship with the jazz tradition. Braxton's and Smith's flute playing is really gripping. Edited March 9, 2021 by Rabshakeh Quote
Peter Friedman Posted March 9, 2021 Report Posted March 9, 2021 Kirk Lightseys' solos on Evidence and Society Red are especially excellent. Quote
