mikeweil Posted June 21, 2021 Report Posted June 21, 2021 Finally got a copy of the Japanese CD reissue for a decent price. I wanted to hear this for more than 30 years! A very good album, very underrated, a bit like a modernized version of Jackie and Roy. Both Mackay and Vicky Hamilton (who died from leukemia a year after this was recorded) turn in some good vocals. Dub Modal Posted June 22, 2021 Report Posted June 22, 2021 I slept on these Lloyd ECM records for too long. This is a strong album with Mehldau & Abercrombie playing well and a phenomenal Larry Grenadier on bass. Quote

The performances, audio and packaging are all excellent. One thing is odd is having several ballads back to back, I wonder if they were played that way or someone decided to resequence the set list, omitting some songs? Quote

Went to dinner at the Singapore on Rush St. (great ribs) with Barry Harris and Eddie Jefferson, waited there a good while for Dan, Harriet, and Ira Gitler to arrive; they were delayed by a gas main explosion. Not as illustrious as Chuck's lineup, but IIRC the conversation was freewheeling and choice. Quote
