I pulled out the three volumes of this series to listen to this week. These "Songbook" series are excellent compilations.

Ella Fitzgerald with the Duke Ellington Orchestra "At Duke's Place" Verve cd

This is one of my favorite of Ella's collaborations. Just so wonderfully relaxed and the arrangements so tenderly enveloping her. Great music and engineering.

Yep.  It's a cryin' shame that it didn't last longer -- because they signed some interesting artists: Flora & Airto, Lester Bowie, Mike Westbrook, Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath, a.o.

Yeah, forgot that he/they put out Mike and Kate W’s ‘London Bridge is Broken Down’.

No problem. I didn't make anything of your comment.

Disc 1

This is one of the few Mosaics I sold and switched over to individual CDs. First off, I didn't like the alternates side by side with the released take, which happens several times in this set. On top of that, I really liked the Capitol stuff, in particular "Blue Serge" and "Boston Blow Up", so it was pretty easy to cherry pick.

Some great vocal performances mixed in with these great quartet and sextet performances.
