jazzbo Posted August 23, 2022 Report Posted August 23, 2022 Inspired by a post on another forum, and remembering when I met Ravi Shankar, I ordered a used copy of this cd and am listening to it now. If authentic, my cd itself appears to be autographed by Ravi and Anoushka! Interesting music. Nicely recorded. Quote
Rabshakeh Posted August 23, 2022 Report Posted August 23, 2022 Jaimie Branch – Fly Or Die (International Anthem, 2017) Some bad rumours on social media tonight. Really hoping they're not true. This for me is the best record IA has released. Giving it a spin now. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 24, 2022 Report Posted August 24, 2022 Listened to this yesterday to hear some relatively early Horace Tapscott. Quote

In fact -- aside from the unremarkable Andrew!!! -- the design of Hill's BN album covers is consistently inspired. Just like Hill's music. I love it too, but the most interesting Andrew Hill I ever heard was on Bobby Hutchersons album I don´t remember the title, maybe "Dialoque".... ? I would have liked to hear one thing that was on one Sam Rivers double LP from that paperbag-cover albums , it was Sam Rivers´ album and had the session by Rivers , which I later bought as something called "Extensions" or "Dimensions" without piano, with Julian Priester on it, very very fine, but what really impressed me then was the second LP where Andrew Hill was the leader. I had borrowed that double album from a friend and taped it on cassette, but I don´t have those cassettes anymore, which is natural. But I don´t know what Album it was, it must have been from about the same time, 60´s, and I think it had Bud Powell´s former drummer J.C. Moses on drums, a very fine drummer. Quote

This two albums were advertised in the German Jazz Magazine "Jazz Podium" and then there was "In This Korner" and we all heard that great edition with Ponomarev, Watkins, Schnitter, Williams, Irving....., the messengers where back, like many other acoustic jazz greats. Wonderful memories. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 24, 2022 Report Posted August 24, 2022 (edited) Continuing my second time through this very interesting box set. Disc 5. Nucleus & Ian Carr "Torrid Zone, The Vertigo Recordings 1970-1975" Each disc in this set is an experience! Edited August 24, 2022 by jazzbo Quote

Oh yeah! Dialogue is magnificent. And it's "almost" an Andrew Hill album -- as much as it's Hutcherson's -- since Hill contributed four of the album's six cuts. (Joe Chambers composed the other two.) 3 hours ago, Gheorghe said: This was my times, and this band was Blakey´s ticket back to top listing after some "lean years" that happened after the 1971/72 "Giants of Jazz" world tours . jazzbo Posted August 24, 2022 Report Posted August 24, 2022 Miles Davis "Bootleg Series Vol. 4" Sony Blu-Spec CD2 edition, disc 4 This is the full four nights of material that became the "Miles Davis at the Fillmore" 2 LP set. I've had the two LP set and cd editions since '72 or so and LOVE it. I like these four discs as well, but still love to listen to the original Miles/Teo creation. Quote
scooter_phx Posted August 24, 2022 Report Posted August 24, 2022 ...and this one, too. Just in one of those moods. Quote
