Clare Fischer - Manteca! (Pacific Jazz, 1965)

I love how Fischer uses an excerpt from Stravinsky's Rite of Spring as a sort of bridge in the middle of his composition "Morning."

In Phil Schaap's supplemental notes to the cd release, Mulligan said he liked this one the best of his "meets" albums for Granz. They do appear to be enjoying the date.

I've never seen that album before.  Jaki Byard !!!

And Alan Dawson!

Chuck Florence is a pretty interesting case. Lots of influences, but it all comes out in his own voice. He's a Detroiter who gigged with both Mitch Ryder and Jack McDuff before finding his home in Montana.

I can recommend this one with confidence. Probably the greatest jazz record ever recorded in Bismark, North Dakota as well!

Trust me on this one.

Oh yeah, Alan Dawson plays vibes on one cut.
