Kenny Barron Ensemble - Table For Two

My copy just came in. I haven't spun it yet nor perused the cookbook, but I hope to in the next few days. I'm the cook of the house for the next few weeks/months as my wife recuperates from surgery so I'm hoping there's an interesting (and easy) recipe in here. :)

Now spinning - David Weiss Sextet - Auteur (Origin). David with a killer band of Myron Walden, Nicole Glover, David Bryant, Eric Wheeler & E.J. Strickland. Really enjoying the playing on this. Strickland is quite the drummer, with fun little accents here & there. I'm a bit bummed that I missed this band when they played at Scullers a little while back, but I had previous commitments. I hear it was a good show.

Agree that Auteur is excellent.

Duke Jordan (p) was in Göttingen with Wilbur Little (b) and Dannie Richmond (dr) presenting this LP:

Jordan-2-1_stitch (Copy).jpg

Duke Jordan Trio: Tivoli One. SteepleChase SCS 1189 [Denmark 1984]

oh what a line up ! Dannie is one of my earliest favourites, saw him 3 times with Mingus, later with others

Yesterday:

Like them both, but the Cliff Jordon-John Gilmore session does not have such a good recording sound like the Griffin album.

I don´t know what was wrong with RVG on that day, since Horace Silver´s piano sounds outright tinny. That´s not RVG´s famous piano sound.....

It is a Blue Mitchell CD on the Mainstream label. It is not one of my favorites.

I played it to give it another try and was disappointed once more.

There are many Blue Mitchell albums I much much prefer.

Now playing:

Song for someone, Kenny Wheeler 2004 PSI edition. What a stunning record, mix of free and contemporary (as of 1973) jazz, but what a terrible mix! Someone needs to have another go at this and reissue it.

Starting off a little warmer morning with a great cd. . . Tom Harrell “Alternate Summer” HighNote

This reminds me a bit of “Filles de Kilimanjaro” and “Miles in the Sky”. . .which is high praise from me.
