Are you referring to the three The World Of Duke Ellington sets? I bought those as released, and also have all that was released originally on LP. How much more is there? Quote
Rabshakeh Posted Monday at 09:09 PM Report Posted Monday at 09:09 PM Jemeel Moondoc Sextet – Konstanze's Delight Sinsuke Fujieda Group – Fukushima Much hyped but actually pretty great overall to my ears. Obviously not ground breaking: it sounds like John Coltrane. But it is really good. What isn't great is those prices. Quote

There's more than those 4 LPs. https://www.discogs.com/release/9865973-Duke-Ellington-The-Complete-Duke-Ellington-1947-1952 (includes "Masterpieces by Ellington" which is not included in the 6 LP box set below) https://www.discogs.com/release/6270534-Duke-Ellington-1947-1952-Recorded-Works-In-Chronological-Order Edited Monday at 09:44 PM by jazzbo Quote
JSngry Posted Monday at 10:03 PM Author Report Posted Monday at 10:03 PM Ok then, I do have Masterpieces on an OG Masterworks LP (totally lucked into that one) and the other material that was first issued on LP, as well as a French LP called Primipn' For The Prom. So...just some stray singles is all that's left? All of the really "important" stuff has seen mainstream release in my lifetime? Ah, but the rest... I have enough LPs and CDs already. Also not in the mood to deal with foreign sellers right now. So a Mosaic would be just what my Ducal Doctor would order (if not pay for. Quote
jazzbo Posted Monday at 10:10 PM Report Posted Monday at 10:10 PM (edited) I think you'll be able to figure what you're missing by comparing on discogs. I myself am very happy to have it all. The LP box set sounds really good to me. I'd love to see a Mosaic as well. Not sure what the chances are of one materializing. Edited Monday at 10:11 PM by jazzbo Quote
JSngry Posted Monday at 10:12 PM Author Report Posted Monday at 10:12 PM The stuff that is marginalized is some of the most interesting imo! Quote

Good to hear a sober analysis which is positive. I will get round to hearing it Edited yesterday at 05:59 AM by mjazzg Quote
JSngry Posted yesterday at 06:37 AM Author Report Posted yesterday at 06:37 AM Rebecca Paris - My Foolish Heart Out of left field for me this one. Glacially slow standards and a singer who knows what to do with them. Never saw it coming. Check it out. Quote

The violin adds some fresh texture and it doesn't run into the rhythmic and harmonic problems that affects a lot of failed retro attempts. There is even a touch of very non-Coltrane groove on a few tracks. Who would have thought that all it took for prices to be north of £200 in a week was to put the words "Japanese" and "spiritual jazz" next to each other in a sentence. Quote

gmonahan Posted yesterday at 07:08 PM Report Posted yesterday at 07:08 PM I've always liked these. Bought a box of the originals many years ago at FNAC during the heart of the great cd reissue era. Quote
jazzbo Posted 23 hours ago Report Posted 23 hours ago I got my replacement record one from the One Step "Bitches Brew." On my original Side A was unplayable, with a loud hum throughout. On this one Side A is perfect. But Side B has the loud hum! At least between the two I have both sides playing perfectly. Quote
