Marc Copland with Gary Peacock & Paul Motian “Voices - New York Trio Recordings Vol. 2” Pirouet cd

 

 

These New York Trio Recordings can rightly be compared to the Keith Jarrett Trio recordings, but have their own special sauce–I really like those I have. And Gary Peacock! He always just commands my attention.

A warmer morning. I couldn’t wait to turn the stereo on and listen. I love this time of the day, and the stereo has been sounding oh so good these mornings.

Starting off with a disc I love: late Jobim, some of his final recordings. collecting his contributions to the Lumiar Records “Songbook” series of cds. Rich, beautiful recordings.

Tom Jobim “Minha Alma Canta – My Soul Sings–the Great Brazilian Songbook”.

I have become a huge fan of Jobim’s work, and his final works are full of a depth that always moves me.

Getz in fine form, with an excellent Swedish trio backing him.

One of my favorite of the Mingus Big Band releases. I’ve been thinking aobut both politics and blues . . . so it seems an appropriate listen.

This would have been a fine night to be in the audience.

I really enjoy this album. Though I usually associate Richie Cole as an alto sax player, He is highly impressive here on baritone sax.

Ahmad Jamal “Emerald City Nights: Live At The Penthouse (1966-1968)” Jazz Detective/Elemental 2 cd set, disc 2

 

 

My system is really singing due to some power treatment rearrangements and the dynamics on this set are far more audible than I had expected. Great playing too. . . Ahmad has his own world of sound.

“We live in a political world.” Oh yes we do. “Everything is broken.” Seems that way. This album seems very relevant each year this century. I love Dylan as a mature singer/songwriter. And producer. (This one is produced by Lanois though).

Miles Davis “Big Fun” Sony Blu-Spec CD2, disc 1

I listened to this (the two LP set) when I was restless and frustrated in my then NE Ohio small, small town. Over and over. It really spoke to me.
