Definitely enjoyment and upbeat energy on a dreary semi-snowy day.

As great as Horace is and as much as I enjoy his music, occasionally I can get the feeling that his albums are kind of over-arranged, if that makes sense. But today I just had fun!

 

Next a mini-Stitt binge, details TBA if I get the energy.

Just listened to this for the first time on a stream of a couple of tracks. Seems impressive as a groove record. I'm surprised that the Gilles Peterson crowd aren't all over it.

A not typical Joyce album–here a batch of jazz standards with her husband Tutti on drums and Helio Alves on piano. Great music for the glistening snow outside and the still quiet of the mornning.

Well, as you can see, there are 8 tracks. For me, I listen differently when
given separated instances of musical interpretations of poetic utterances.
I think Ewart recites just enough to not overwhelm, but when he does recite,
it's not very engaging for me in a meaningful way, so I just listen to his voice
as another instrument. I do like that they're clearly listening to each other
and responding in ways that aren't ego-driven with attention to color/timbre.

If you go there and listen, you'll hear that it's not only a long recording,
but it must've been a long initial recording because it, at times, sounds
like fade outs of ongoing improv. As for it being good, it all depends on
what you're listening for, so just take the time to listen to it and decide.
